According to one of my favorite mac-sites, Microsoft decided to quit developping their Media Player for Mac OS X.
Don't think that we won't be able to play wmv's anymore.
Microsoft bought a company called 'Flip4Mac'. This company made a plug-in so you could watch wmv's in quicktime. With their free trial you were able to watch half of your movie.
Now that Microsoft bought it it is available for free. You can still buy the full-version which will let you convert wmv's into other formats. But at least you can watch your movie.

Be advised: there have been complaints about the compatibility with OS X 10.4.4 and Quicktime 7.0.4.  If you haven't updated to the new versions yet, you won't have any problems. But if you have, it is better to wait untill they release a 10.4.4 (QT 7.0.4) version.

Flip4mac is great, just in case your wondering about getting it, i dumped WMP ages ago for a copy of flip4mac and have never booted WMP since! Cheesy

I've got a problem with viewing movies then going hitting the < arrow key in safari to go back, it crashes safari.

It was a movie on ebaums - dunno if it's just that site or what.

Flip still has a lot of problems doing streams inside of Safari. I hope either WMP does another release [as in when IE mac was reborn to die in beta] or flip gets much better.

They won't make another upgrade at all. They are stopping productions on it, as of their new five year contract with Messenger and office.
And I certainly hope they won't try and make another release of it. would be better if they helped Flip4mac instead.

Ahem... Yes, they bought flip4mac and made it free. As to where before unless u payed, it only played half of the wmv in Quicktime. But i dont know if this means we dont get anymore more WMP.

So we should be happy about this  clapping hands good job microsoft, you did something RIGHT!
