so i'll be taking my first trip to NY in a week or so... I'll be gone from New Year's Eve until the 8th or so....

I've already made an intinerary to do the necessary things like the empire state, Ellis Island, so on and so forth.  I'll even be taking in a Jets game and a NY Rangers game!

I'll be staying at the Soffitel hotel, which is the number one rated hotel... w00t.

anyone have any advice?  What should I not miss out on? What is a must see.... anything and everything will be appreciated...

I just hope for you that the subway and busses are driving again ;-)

Some word of advice - don't go further up than 135th Street. I was living at 127th East when I visited N.Y. City this summer for a week, and I noticed that the area gets uncomfortable as tourist if you go further up towards the Bronx, especially at night.

At all I visited the common tourist attractions and enjoyed the nightlife in Central Park(I don't know if there are a lot of festivals and concerts in the winter, but in summer it was a great place to be) and East Village(lots of bars).

What you can leave out for sure is ground zero.

Have fun and enjoy your stay,

Mauti

I hear the hookers in New York City are first rate.  So don't miss out on that.  Wink

Yeah you better hope the strike is over. NYC is fucked right now. No buses or subway, cabs are jammed and charging people $10 to even get in the cab. People can't go to work, restuarants are shut down because no one can get there. Its chaos.

They refused to let people into NYC if they didn't have 4 or more passengers.

New York Pizza is the best.  You shouldn't have any problem finding a good pizza place if your staying in the city.  Thats one thing you can't miss out.

Going to see the Ball Drop in the city is really fun...just make sure you wear extremely warm clothes because its gets freezing cold.

Visiting Time Square...the Tree should still be Lit and its very nice. And you can do some shopping and they have really nice places to eat around there.

The one thing im worried about is the weather... what should I wear?

I'm an L.A. boy and I usually relax at the beach.  Cold here is 60 degrees... I don't think I have ever experienced anything lower than 55.

am i gonna freeze my nuts off?

Yes you will freeze. It's 23 in Baltimore right now. Since your blood is 'thin' from all that warm weather i would advise packing a pair of long johns, Army issue 100% polypropolene cold weather drawers are especially effective, it's what I rock under jeans when the temp drops below 30. Also, a wool sweater would be nice and if you're in a survival situation it's much better than cotton (death fabric) because it retains its insulating properties even when wet. Boots might be nice as well, I recommend Mukluks.
