Unlike z][t we're not completely done with GhR. However, the regular and highly-active members of [:] are now experiementing with heavy drugs.... I mean... America's Army. I've set us up with a leased server and we've been playing on it a little here and there as I try to get it set up and running smoothly.

I ran a public honor server that I payed for personally.  It cost me something like $180 a month.  I think that was for a 20-man server.

This is getting a bit off topic...but you really should try Radio Tower.  It's a nice big map that has some great spots on it if you like to be a sniper (as I do!).

why pay for a 10 man server when you can host AA off your own mac? I do.. it runs fine while I'm hosting and playing. It shows up as a public server in the built-in browser.

Without Honor, though, and it's a total UNIX mess... and I doubt you can host many people anyways, AA is a hardware and bandwidth hog. Professional hosting is the real way to go.

The main reason is because I absolutely refuse to play on a non-honor server.  I will only play when I'm gaining honor, which is why I usually don't play when the PC version and the mac version don't match up...like what happened for most of this year.  During those times I take a nice long break from the game.

Yeah, I love the fact about AA that you actually get something for playing and can track your stats and the stats of others (although that's not AA, that's AAO Tracker). Smiley

If you had read the posting I linked to in my original post here, you would see that it's NOT an honor server... yet. If enough people are interested -- and willing to cough up the $5.00 a month it would cost per slot -- I will switch it over to an honor server -- which I would prefer too as I don't like playing on non-honor servers. Right now, as a non-honor server, it's $2.00.

And just to be clear, the money doesn't go to me... it goes directly to the server host.  I never see it.

I wish I could afford to simply pay for it and let everyone play on it for free, but that's just not in my budget. I already pay for my team's site out of my pocket.

I can't visit that site from work...the filter we have on our network blocks sites like that one.

All... I'll be setting up a page on our site with all the info later this week. I'll post the link here when I get it set up. Also... If anyone has decent success hosting from their Mac, please tell us about it. I leased this server because I heard it was all but impossible to host an Internet game unless you had a high-end machine (which I do) AND a phat connection (which I don't). On our server I get a ping here in NYC of anywhere from 8 to 50. Weak gets about double that in LA (the server's in New Jersey). All very playable pings. No lag what so ever.
