Ventrilo is one good application with one jackass of a developer.

Have yet to test it out - hopefully I will be able to.

Wow, I'm kinda pissed... I tried the app and it's fuckin' terrible. You couldn't even possibly call this crap an Alpha version and give it to the public. Because... it's not usable at all! I assumed that this (cr)app was simply released because the developer got in a tight spot after the release of a Mac client for TeamSpeak... and I'm right. It's trash and nothing really works, besides 99% of the rest of the app's features where a message pops up that says "Not supported yet" or similar. And this after over two years of development, according to several reports of the dev of the Mac version... to be honest, this is pathetic.




And btw, the app crashes every time I try to quit it normally and all set configurations in it get lost.

I tried Ventrilo earlier and it worked fine. It has voice-activation!!
Even tested it on one of my clanmate's mac-server.

For the moment the downsampling doesn't work I think, it stays on 16kb.
Only when quitting the app it gives me the crashdialog.

The Voice Activation in this Ventrilo version works like crap, though... it's just terrible and very user-unfriendly. Pretty much nothing really works, as said before, after years of development. Besides... the app looks like crap, only the icon is cool.

TeamSpeex has Voice Activation since several non-public builds already and it works great. It's VERY user-friendly and actually looks like a Mac app, heh. Planned release date for the next public release is tomorrow, or today according to european time. It's made a great progress since the last version, and that one was good already.

Be nice for someone to throw up a test server to see how it is.

I know the way Vent is built is better than TS - won't be much lag like there is now in TS between the time you say something and the time it's sent.

The status page was update with a lot of good 'sounding' things. Maybe Vent will work soon.

My Vent works perfect, and just fine. Maybe it's cause all your fine G5's can't handle such a good application.  ...

Anyway Hawk  has a Vent server on ask him for the ip..

Vent is stupid. It's one of the buggiest and slowest app ever created on the mac platform. They could atleast made it native..

Mmmkay Ethion:

- Vent is one of the best... if not the best.. voice app on the PC platform
- It is in "Prototype" on mac.. that's really not even beta
- It is Native, for you don't have to open OS9, an emulator, or boot a windows PC to run it

It's good they are making it for Mac and continuing to improve it through public pre-releases. If you want more from a developer please elaborate.

It's been in development for fuckin' years... for this amount of time, this "prototype" SUCKS, not only in its functionality but also in its usability and layout. There's nothing to 'defend', you don't release something that's barely usable at all, especially with a lame excuse like calling it "prototype". It's absolutely ridiculous and obvious that he only released it because of TeamSpeex, in fact he abandoned the Mac version originally.

No Ethion, that's not native, that's common sense, and if there was one shortfall thus far in Ventrilo development it has been the lack of common sense in Flagship ignoring anyone's offerings of help. I just can't believe this 'Flagship' fellow would constantly and continually make story after story about why development has been delayed. Weren't the original plans for both TS and Vent to release with next major release a Mac client?

The TS guys told me that it'd be released as Universal Binary for Mac fro the start, and that it's planned for sometime in the first half of 2006.

Ventrilo in theory would be better considering it is preferred in the PC land.

Civic is right in saying that it has been in development for years and it still is a prototype.  I bet he slapped it together as soon as TeamSpeex was released.  I love going onto the Vent forums and seing all the little punks who think if they suck up to Flag he will give them special privilages.  Hell no, this guy is a tard and he doesn't give two shits about Mac's.

TS I'm also shaky about since even that is pretty hush hush when it comes to Mac, any thread that starts about it gets locked and they say to refer to this 66 page long thread on Mac's that doesn't give jack shit about anything.  They all say it's "in development" and nobody follows through.
