Hey guys and gals,

the *DBL and I would like to know if there is (still) interest in a ladder for Close Combat: First To Fight.

I heard from many people that it's going to be supported by GameRanger soon, because without this the ladder is most probably not going to be active, or at least not active enough (as we know from former experiences). Therefore it wouldn't make much sense to add the ladder before it has GameRanger-Support, in my opinion. I tried to ask Evill about a status on this... but unfortunately without answer.

If there is enough interest, though, and/or Evill finally gives us an approximate date, I could imagine that we can add a ladder for this great game for Season XI already. To motivate an active ladder, I read through older threads about proposed rules and settings for a possible FtF ladder and came up with this:

- Team Deathmatch
- 1 life
- 3 rounds per map
- 5 maps per CB
- First clan with 3 won maps wins the CB (Best of 5)

- Default CB size: 2v2 (highest possible is only 4v4)
- No 1v1 CBs

Why Team Deathmatch pretty much speaks for itself I think. Why only 1 life... well, because we don't have respawns in any other games in this league (except the FFA ladders) and it's simply not common for CBs. Why 3 rounds per map and 5 maps per CB... to simply not make it too long while still being enough for a good and fair CB. Why the first clan with 3 won maps wins the CB... that's logical, isn't it?

The relatively small Default CB size is the main point. The game only allows CBs up to 4v4 and to motivate a good activity of the ladder I'd set it to 2v2. This encourages many smaller clans which would be very good for the overall activity of the ladder. 1v1 CBs would not be allowed, though, since it's going to be a teamladder.

So... what do you guys think about this suggested rules/settings? All comments are appreciated. And, as asked in the first place, are you interested in a ladder at all? I really hope this game finds its way to GameRanger soon. Smiley

Apparently, it runs pretty well on some pretty low-end (by todays standards) comps. i've heard 700 Mhz, 256 meg ram comps can run it decently w/ medium settings.

I might have to try this game out. I've been looking for a decent medium of GhR and RvS that will run well. This definitely sounds like it. OXM didn't like it (2.8 on XBox), but from what I've seen around GR, people like it.

yeah, it's like GhR and RvS had a love child (stole that line from the [:] forums Tongue). for the specs... it runs good on 700Mhz iMacs, and not even on lowest settings, as jerkasaur said. that's mainly because it's not a port of a PC-version, as usual, it has been developed for both platform (and consoles) at the same time. the guys did a really good job with the game-engine and the optimization.

if guys are interested in running some mock cb's or anything i'd be more than down.  I think the ground rules that civic talked about are soild, they are the same ones that i had already proposed....

....  the thing that is worth debating, however, are the kit restrictions.

What I really think should be done is the kits should be restricted (i forget what its called) to where each member has to take a unique gun.  If not, you end up with 4 guys taking the SAW or RPG or M203 and it becomes a game that is more like Unreal Tourney or CS.

This is the first game I have just about ever played where you can actually lay effective cover fire and pin an enemy.... but, if everyone has a SAW (as usually happens in public games w/o kit restrictions) then the game is too runny and gunny.

Does anyone know if there are any new mappacks out yet ?
The multiplayer maps that come with the game are really to small and there are not enough of them.

haven't heard anything new yet, they were planning to release a mappack a while ago.

yeah, we are going to use the kit restriction where each teammember has to take a unique weapon. what was it called again, though? can't check right now.[/color]
