I was wondering if it were possible if we made a new map pack for this upcoming season?  Playing the maps that we have now over and over is really starting to get old, IMO.
There are some great maps in the  Hx5, mp3, b&g, IT, and x5 mod that would be perfect for cb's..ex: jungle prison..polling center, etc..  Could we take the best maps out of these mods and make it into a new DBL map pack to spice things up a bit?

Well, the IT maps aren't public domain, so that's almost out of the question.

"aren't public domain"... Is that a legal issue for *DAMN?

Most of us have the x5 mod. If *DAMN doesn't want to officially package the four maps in there for the DBL perhaps it could just be added to the list of "approved" maps to play.

Some new maps would be nice......some good Frostbite ones to consider also.

Well, considering a while back that Ubisoft threatened to take DAMN down and put a lawsuit on Mauti just for a converter, I'd think they'd take it pretty seriously if he made their maps freely availible

We could still use all of the maps that weren't Island Thunder though, right?  There are just a select few good IT maps....there are many other maps that are DBL worthy.

You don't want to know how much trouble :MoD:Saberian went through to try to get answers on who owns the rights to Island Thunder.  First he was referred to Aspyr by Ubisoft - then when trying to contact Aspyr they seemed as though they didn't much care, they probably don't since it has been around for a few years.

Well either way...with or without the IT maps, we still need a new map pack.  I along with a few others were going to go through and find the best maps from all of the other mods...We could take suggestions on what maps to put in it, etc..and then go through and make sure there are no bad glitches.

I am building a few maps for Ghost Recon and Monoman is doing the scripting work on them.  We'll probably release them in a mappack when they become finished.

Well if i remeber correctly.. the DBL rules state that you can use whatever MODs you wabt as long as both clans agree to it. So if you want to use other maps i say go for it... I realy like the s1-s3 map packs (i know we are using some of the maps out of those right now) but there are a few other maps in those packs that were realy cool.

not up to us. if you want a new map pack, theres no way we can stop you. its up to mauti if he wants to host it on the site, but we can't prevent you from doing anything, in fact I think most of us would appreciate someone doing it a lot.

This sickens me because last season or maybe two seasons ago mostly :MoD:Saberian and myself with help from some other clans for testing put together a whole mappack only to get it shoved back down our throats by Mauti.

So I don't know if you guys want to waste all your time on a mappack that might not even get accepted.

it got "rejected" by Mauti because of unsolved legal issues because of several maps in it that are copyrighted, that's the only reason. even if Asypr or Ubisoft wouldn't care anymore, they never answered that they don't and/or accept the use of their maps in a free and here distributed mappack. Mauti almost got sued by them for the IT converter stuff a while ago... so he asked to make sure it's ok with 'em, which didn´t happen.

other than that, as stated in the rules, if both clans agree to use a new map(pack), or a different gamemode even, in a CB, they can do so.

i wouldnt want to waist my time on a map pack that could only be played if both clans agree.  No one would ever agree to it in a cb..just like all of the other map packs.  i'd only want to make a new one if it were accepted by the dbl.  If we didn't use the IT maps, then we wouldnt have any issues with copyright laws, right?

as long as the maps are not copyrighted by Aspyr or so there should be no problem. this includes maps from IT and Frostbite, dont know of any other official and "not free" add-ons for GhR.

I think IT is an accepted modification by all clans - just about everybody has it or knows somebody who can give it to them.

I personally think that regardless of what maps that are decided to be put into a new map pack, they should all be easy to download from this site. Requiring IT I think drasticly cuts down on the player pool because it's not officially supported (and thus people are hesitant to buy it), requiring it for those who don't have it and arn't going to buy it, means they have to d/l it illegally which seems to go against DAMN policy.

That said, I do think there are some excellent maps that should be looked at for a new map pack. Desert City is personally one of my favorites.
