ok, so i just sold my trusty dual 867 G4, and with the profits bought a 1.33 G4 PB.  Sweet deal, right?

I had a snow basestation just sitting in my room, so my wireless network was easy to set up.  i plugged it in, configured and hopped on the net without a problem.... or so i thought...

soon after browsing the net i needed to DL something... yes porn, whatever.

i click the link, and it begins in my download manager, and then POOF... nothing...  the first 10k will DL and then it simple says "cannot create file."  No partial file shows up on my desktop or anything.

This is on any page any link anywhere.

I CAN... surf the web, get on GR, and join rooms.... any ideas....  i already rebooted (der) and fixed permissions....

Looks like my problem pwned everyone, no replies.

Well, I solved it by doing a hard reset... reinstalling the firmware on the basestation and it was all good.

New problem....  i took an 17' crt studio display out of storage and tried hooking it up to my powerbook.  i had the need DVI/ADC adapter and put it all together.  BUT, i get no image on the second screen.  The apple system profiler does recognize it, and the power button on the CRT even prompts the powerbook to shutdown.  I can even move windows off screen, but of course they are not visible because the CRT displays no image.  I booted up a G5 using the same CRT monitor and it works perfectly fine.

what gives?

Well, if I had the money, I'd do the same thing. I'd still have a Mac for everything else but games.

Man. What is wrong with you, weakspot? That was the fastest I have ever seen a mac user completely give up on a (probably easily fixable) problem and turn to the dark side.

Well. As the saying goes...

Did you check the system prefs/monitor, or did you go to you check the utilities and see if you had to select an "external" monitor in your video settings? Does your vid card support a second monitor?

I would email Mauti since he uses an external monitor with his powerbook.

do you have the normal DVI/ADC adapter cable or do you have the special DVI/ADC one for powerbooks? you need the special Display Adapter to hook up a monitor to a Pbook, that's why it worked on a G5 but not on your laptop. i noticed today morning at work that there are two different ones.

Yes, the apple reps verified that my PB does support second displays, and that the display in question is supported.  In my Apple System Profiler the display is recognized and there is sign of a signal because the display can turn on my PB when there are connected.

I had no idea there were two of them, I'll check it out.  I just got off the phone with an Apple Engineer.  Looks like they were able to replicate the problem but dont have a fix yet.  He said if they cant fix it they would "find a way to make things square" with me.  Replacement monitor, most likely.
