Gaming since Avalon Hill days

Hi, I've posted on this before without reply, but I could still really use the help. ?I've done a number of conversions now, and all work, except for the sound files.

The latest is NNN -- Rodion's Naughty Nurses from Neverland mod, used along with the Covert Operations mod (BTW, there's nothing especially "naughty" about these nurses, except they're really mean with a gun). ?Plays great, except the nurse-voices don't work.

I'm converting the .wav files to System 7 sound files, mono, 16 bit, 11.025 kHz, at an IMA 4:1 compression, using Media Cleaner 5.02. ?I can't figure out why these sounds don't play within the game. ?They play fine when I click on them to review OUTSIDE the game. ?Any ideas? ?This is driving me nuts.

Hey

Have you tried using SoundAppPPC? The only reason I'm suggesting this is because even though I sometimes (as you know) have the same problem with sounds, that's not the case when I converted the Rodion mod...

Other than that, I'd love to hear an answer to this question as well, as it has been plaguing me intermittantly as well.

Mauti? Anyone?

Toby

Yeah, this is weird Toby. ?I'll try SoundAppPPC, but I suspect something else is going on. ?

Oh Mighty Mauti -- help us!

OK, I tried converting the .wav files in NNN with SoundAppPPC instead of Media Cleaner 5, but still no luck. ?

I still don't hear a thing -- and this time I took care to analyze the sound files in the other Redstorm "official" mods that do work, and copied their parameters exactly: ?System 7 sound; mono; 16 bit; 22.050 kHz; PCM (not IMA) compression.

I CANNOT figure out what's going on. ?Any other ideas, anyone??

Hi franx,

well convert the sounds with SoundApp and use the following parameters:

Format: System Sound
Encoding: PCM
Rate: 44100Hz
Channels: No Change
Bits: 16Bit

I have used this configuration for all my conversions and I had never problems with it.
By the way where can I get your conversion of the Hill mod? Have you uploaded it to an iDisk? I don't have much time so I could save time by d/ling your version. Well Army is over in few days then I can also do it myself.

have a nice day,

Mauti

Thanks Mauti, I'll test these parameters today.  I'm sure Toby, vanik and others will be interested as well.

Mauti, you are the Mod Czar.

I did what you suggested, and the sounds now work in both the mods where I reconverted the sounds according to your formula.

How the heck did you figure out that exact configuration? ?I must have tried half a dozen different combos of codec, bits, channel, etc.

Thanks -- mucho.
