Allright... I know its common knowledge that a lot of people find that when they quit Raven Shield it crashes and you have to force quit the app. Well since booting it up the other night force quitting is failing to do the job, infact it completely hangs - although if im on KDX at the time, it remains running as i can still hear people talking etc... The only thing that has changed is that im now running Tiger... has anyone else had this problem and does anyone have any suggestions! It doesn't happen all the time, just about 75% ! Sad

I think ross has the same problem and I thought it was related to his graphics card...
Better go talk with him, maybe he can suggest you certain things. I know he still has to reboot his computer before he wants to play a game.

Yea sounds familiar.

It seems to be a problem with the single G5 powermac 1.8Ghz in tiger.

After the computer has been on for a few hours I can't open a game or watch anything in quicktime it just freezes and I can't do anything. Happens with every game.

yeah, same here with my PowerMac G5 1.8Ghz and the ATi Radeon 9600XT! thought it'd be only me, heh. when my mac was on for a while and i played for example BF1942demo on GR for some hours and quit it everything just freezes and forces me to force-restart. same thing happens when i load a QT movie in safari or in the app itself. therefore i guess it's something in QT, which games use also.

what i also noticed, surprisingly... it didnt happen (so far) when i didnt use Dashboard before playing or watching something with QT (browser/app). strange, i'll observe it some more. maybe something gets done about this in the coming 10.4.2 update, according to reliable sources this should be tonight or tomorrow. Smiley

edit: the problems from these guys in the Apple forums is EXACTLY what i have! jeez, why did i never check... i already got used to signing off and on before playing, so it doesnt freeze. Tongue from what i read there will be new ATi drivers in 10.4.2, hopefully helpful. maybe that's why the thread there got locked, because they found the mistake or so...

d'uh, no. read our posts and the discussions at apple, seems like you didnt understand the problem. we and them aint noobs, if we say it freezes and we cant do anything else than force-restarting, then your general knowledge trick doesnt work either because the system is frozen.

Well it screwed me again last night.

Firstly for the record im not on a G5. This is a Quicksilver G4 running 10.4.1  with a ATI Radeon 9800 card.
The bizarre and most annoying thing about this problem is the fact that it doesn't always happen! I quit RvS earlier in the evening without any problems.

Has anyone upgraded there graphics card and solved this problem.

I have the ATI 9600 XT and a Single G5 1.8 like most people with this problem.

I am thinking of getting the X800 but really the 9600XT is doing good for me at the moment but if upgrading wiil fix this problem I would buy now.

In previous versions of OSX simply hitting command + option + esc would forcequit it, but you should also attempt alternating between the frocequit command, and hitting return. About 10 times does the trick for me, occasionally i also take out GR.

no, changing the graphics card does not fix it. neither do any key combos...

My current work around for this problem has been the following...

Try force quitting as normal - if it freeze's then put the computer to sleep and wake it up again instantly... very unhealthy for the comp im sure but it sure as heck does the trick!

have had the same problem with a 2.0 G5, fucking brand new computer(well a month old). Ive tried forcequiting to no avail. Also have tried putting the computer to sleep and waking it... all that happens is i get this wierd yellow and black checkerboard stripe running down the cneter of my screen instead of the frozen quit checkbox. What I have noticed is it usually doesnt happen with servers that are closer to me. Being a US player, Harveys usually quits fine but euro servers usually freeze me up.

That makes no sense, it most definitely has nothing to do with the server's location.

Thats very interesting - i get the checkbox strip down the center of the screen to - but only for a few seconds then it quits and im returned to the finder/GR.

- and i know what your saying re; the server location i had that feeling a while back when i could have sworn it happend less often when i was on a euro server... but a. it can't be a factor and b. its happening 100% of the time to me now!!

im on the older 1.8 single G5 with the 900 mhz fsb, and i haven't had any of these problems. I do have the x800 XT, but i don't recall having this problem before..must just be the newer g5's.
