Adobe Systems Incorporated (Nasdaq: ADBE) has announced a definitive agreement to acquire Macromedia (Nasdaq: MACR) in an all-stock transaction valued at approximately $3.4 billion. Under the terms of the agreement, which has been approved by both boards of directors, Macromedia stockholders will receive, at a fixed exchange ratio, 0.69 shares of Adobe common stock for every share of Macromedia common stock in a tax-free exchange. Based on Adobe’s and Macromedia’s closing prices on Friday April 15, 2005, this represents a price of $41.86 per share of Macromedia common stock.

I always found Macromedia to have a great... a great base product... but terrible execution of their overall improvement of that product. This potentially means by CS3 we will get to see some awesome integrations.

Myst no way apple is going to buy Adobe heh.

Super app would be nice - stupid mish mash of technology and crap and lack of drive due to no competition would be crap

Photoshop, Dreamweaver, Flash, Fireworks, all in one box.  There go the hopes of any smaller companies in this field.

Time to be on who will introduce something shocking and new to compete with Adobe... I wonder if Apple will be less nice to them after this move. Maybe even continue their pro app series by building on their success in Motion and move into the PS level graphics or even vector based graphics.

the only way i can see apple pwning them at their own game is by making it affordable for all, we already know they can make the apps.
