Macrumors

Quote
"Business 2.0 published an article which provides a roundup of thoughts circulating around the Mac Web and came up with their own "What's Next for Apple?" predictions.

From most likely to least, they provide speculation on the following products:

Wireless iPod
vPod (Video iPod)
iHome (Media Center)
iPod on Wheels (Enhanced iPod/Car interaction)
iPhone (Apple Branded)"

I would love to see 3ghz version of the G5. A couple different variations.
  • 3ghz SP
  • 3ghz DP
  • 3.2ghz DP

That would be sweet...

ipod on wheels would be good too

I've been begging for Dual-3.0GHz G5's for over a year.  Give me that, and Apple will make me very very happy.

P.S. Shouldn't this thread be in the Tech Talk?

I agree whole heartedly with you GS.  Smiley

Get Virtual PC if you're that desperate Rebel.  It wont run HL2 or Doom 3, but it's better than nothing.

Right now I'm fat and happy on my Dual 2.5 G5, so I'm not chomping at the bit for Apple to come out with a souped up new machine.  What I would like to see is anything that puts them that much more on the map of the computer market, and encourages more software (games included) to be made for the Mac before, or at the same time, it is made for the PC.

Months later? The only game that has been delayed due to complications with actual porting has been doom3. Of course you'll mention AA 2.3, but that is rights, the update was ready long before according to err was it Gordon who did the port? If you want to play games and pass them by as soon as the next release is out, then you get a xbox or a PS2.

Apple needs to make use of its 64 bit tech and use their influence to get freecale to release the 64bit sped up G4.5s. I don't want macs to be a 50% market share. I want macs to hold around 10%. I don't want OSX for PC. The family sense it what makes apple special.

Family sense? U feel u are part of a family? I merely feel like im stuck to a short limit of games that have allready been worn out and are past their time on the day of their release. Maybe its just because by the time we get them the pc world has allready come and gone and im stuck playin it on GR, although Aspyr has come on the scene and tried to change that. I have realized this and moved to xbox for gaming being that is a true gaming machine and the mac is not. I have come to accept it but their are still many people who believe that "mac gamers" exist. This is true, they do not exist. A  gamer is not one who merely plays games but one who takes them seriously like myself on the xbox soon heading to the MLG ( Major League Gaming ) Halo 2 Tourney in Orlando here in a 2 weeks. Im not really in the mood for the mac vs pc bashing but the point im making is until macs can produce the same framerates and same amount of games as pcs, they are not and will not be gaming machines.

Hmm.  Interesting.  I've found that defining a "gamer" as anything but "one who plays games" is usually a poorly disguised exaggeration of self-importance, but that's just me.

Teeheehee.  You're funny.

Gaming machines?  Don't you mean "they are not and will not be my gaming machines of choice"?  I'm sure there are some people who play games on Macs, considering...ya know, this website, and all.

@Myst:

At the moment though, wouldn't 64-bit memory addressing be sorta worthless in terms of games and game performance?  I can't think of any gaming case in which 64-bit processing would be noticeably advantageous, except for games that use 4GB+ of system RAM (which doesn't happen quite yet  Wink ).  I can see how that would be desirable in general use, though.

Was Freescale formerly part of Motorola?  I don't know much about the G4.5s.  What clock speeds are they currently selling them at?

Oh joy, a version of Mac OSX without any real applications yet. If they are that desperate for OSX, imagine what they will do when a version that has more apps than iLife/iWork.

No bashing intended or taken, but I have to disagree.  There ARE many true Mac gamers out there, like me, Sheix, etc.  Yes, we do game, but we DO still take the game seriously enough where we want and know we can be competitive against other PC gamers.  99.9% of the time we game (on CoD) on PC servers and we always tend to top off on top 3 at end of matches.  This is with all the most popular gametypes; like objective based (DOM, SD, etc) and spray & pray TDM.

I agree Macs are not gaming machines but I game on a 1.25 GHz Powerbook WIRELESSLY and still produce competitive stats.

Good luck on the tourney Rebs.

Macs will soon be gaming machines and pro machines. Boot into Windows for games instantly and Direct X. Not to mention that by the time the Intel macs come out VPC may produce 100% efficiency due to no real hardware emulation. Mac gamers will stick together. Rebel may eat his words in the end, but i don't expect much.

Here's hoping that Mac prices will drop. Then and only then will I come back to the Mac.

In essence, I never really left though. I use an all Mac network at work that I built.  Cheesy

http://www.macnn.com/articles/05/06/15/64.bit.p4.apple.refurbs/

Quote
Intel shifted the majority of its Pentium 4 processors to 64-bit capability over the weekend by quietly introducing the Intel 5x1 series, which shifts the existing 775-pin, 32-bit Pentium 4 line—-known as the 5xx series—-to 64-bit memory addressing....

I assume this is some closer on the 64-bit issue. Apple won't take any steps backwards.
