My Opinion on GR

First of all I just wanna say I have met a lot of cool people on Gameranger. But why do we play gameranger? Think about it... It's not to make friends nooo it's because we wanna play games and GR is the only damn Mac Gaming service out there. That's the only reason. If there was another service do you think we would deal with Scott and his BS on GR? I mean you can't even have a decent conversation on GR w/o getting banned. OMG NO U SAID WAREZ BANNED.. I mean I can see if you're posting IPs and places to get it, but if you just want to have a discussion about it? Please people. It's not 1984 any more! Also have you guys noticed that Scott is always right? The supreme being.. Suree.. My ass. If he doesn't feel like talking and is in a bad mood because his ED medicine didn't come in time, he won;t talk to you. Wow. Now that's how the admin is supposed to act. And I hope he reads this and bans me. Cause frankly I don't give a rat's ass. I don't wanna put up with his BS anymore. This is my opinion on the ONLY mac gaming service out there. Now before I get a million replays saying " Gamranger for Life" or "Faus Shutup" I want you fellow gamers to think about what I have just typed and don't get all upset. Also Ace don't post a dumbass reply like " you don't have a life" because you know ALMOST every damn word I have just typed is true. Peace...

i kind of agree with faus there should be another server to play on.... but faus if there were more than one server then there would be no one to play with... with the limited mac gamers theres not enough demand for more than one.... sure this lapse of not playing sucks big donkey tail but it gives us a chance to step away and make us not geeks or have lives , so to say... (sorry ACE i beat you to it   )  I dont know scott and really dont care who he is as long as when i want to play i can and theres cool ass people to play with... i'm not saying shut up or anything of that matter but there are other games that dont use gameranger(star craft ! ) and besides its a nice rainy day out(here anyways) go shopping or something the server will be up soon enough and we can kill till the cows come home...hehe yeah COW i'm coming for you!!

i agree with u on the fact that evill can be an ass some (or most) of the time, but u gotta remember that this guy has put in countless hours to provide a service for us without basically any financial gain... if u truly have a prob with the way things are run on gr, why dont u put ur money where ur mouth is and boycott

gr being down is good because i have come to realize that since rs came out i havnt done much in terms of social life. been going out now because i have nothing to do...i feel sorry for the main chat guys

If it were a good place to be, and it ADVERTISED, why wouldn't they.  I've been using Mac's since the late 80's, and I've always played (what limited choices I've had) games on the Mac.  And I've seen the GameRanger icon, but until lately, I never joined GameRanger.  I've played games like Falcon over the networks even back in 90 (college), but I never realized the possibilities that GameRanger opened up.  If I had known that this community existed for some time, I would have been here immediately.  I only learned about Game Scouter from reading the threads in this forum.... How many other Mac Gamers out there have never heard of it, do you think?

Ace... are you like best friends with Scott? Because all you ever do is keep saying how he spent "countless" hours making GR for us. Well shit... if he didn't make a mac gaming service, someone would have sooner of later. C'mon face it the guys thinks he is superior to us. I mean yeah, we all owe him some thanks but after awhile you feel like beating the shit out of him because he is so damn full of himself it makes us all sick. Faus is right, I also am getting sick of GR and Scott's shit. And you can't even say anything to Scott if you have a question or something because all you will do is get your ass banned after every Scott "praiser" will tell you to STFU. I mean shit, all of Scott's friends are just a bunch of suck ups on GR. They just want to be friends with him so they never get banned and if they have problems Scott will actually talk to them. GR is a bunch of shit. I'm happier then ever when GS comes out because hopefully it won't be like GR, with shitty admins and crappy server.

Faus-- you are so right man and I agree with you. I have met a lot of cool people on GR too. But you're right, if there was another mac gaming service none of use would put up with the BS we get from Scott. But macs are last when it comes to computers, because we never get any support from companies. Take MSN for example, of course they made a free gaming service for the PC and because MSN is a big company they never have problems with a server like GR, but do you think the worthless shits at MSN would make a gaming service for the Mac? Hell no.

The only things I can add to what you said are:

1. MSN collects revenue, which enables it to be a better service.  So, I agree that service could be much better, and I WOULD be willing to pay a small fee for it (and to not keep hearing the true, but overused comment that Scott provides this for free).

2. I've only been on GameRanger for a few months now, and have never been banned or had any contact with Scott what so ever.  From reading this forum, the general opinon of him seems to be that he's quite the horses ass (to put it mildly).  Is he really that abusive?  I'm not doubting, just asking as I have no real experience with him.

3. Even if he is providing this server for free.. he's made an unvoiced comitment to the users of GR... and by his seeming lack of concern with GR being down, and the disappointment this has generated with the users, he's pretty much shown an attitude of selfishness.  Maybe I'm wrong... but if I were supplying something out of the kindness of my heart, and I failed to deliver at some point... I would be sorry, apologize and try my best to fix the situation.  Otherwise, if I didn't care, why in the hell would I have done this in the first place?

I haven't seen the dark side of GR that has been discussed, but I know this,  there is a need for a REAL mac game service.  Not one that is a hobby.  And I'd be willing to pay.

Thank-you Grifter for adding that, because that is all true. Scott is that abusive. He thinks her is superior to everyone and he is always right (well in his mind he is). He has banned me several times for asking a question. So if you ask me, GS is a gift because now we don't have to put up with shit from GR, but let's hope we don't have to put up with any of the same shit from GS.

Man u guys sound pretty damn serious on this subject.  I still dont c how Scott is an ass.  

First off u guys say how u'll get banned for talken about hotlineing, have u ever stopped and thought maybe y u would?? maybe cuz its illegal!!  I'd have to say dl/ing a prog such as Rogue Spear or anyother application that is expensive just to not pay  is being really cheap.

The other thing on how there r not a ton of Mac Gamer's.  Id have to say there r only about 200 mac's that play R6 and RS combined, and when im on i only c about 170 people total on average.  Now creating a second gameing service for mac wouldnt be a smart idea, it would spread out the numbers of mac gamers and make even smaller communties of players.  

It seems to me that no one has really ever made a huge effort to Advertise GR.  I got my iMac in August and then got my very first game in November for the Mac, Rainbow Six.  I played the game and beat it and then sat around for about 2 months wondering how to play it online.  It took me a while to find GR and i still cant believe how it was there the whole time but i never knew about it.  

Finaly, the GR server itself.  I really dont have any complaints w/ it at all, and iv asked Evill tons of questions and never have been booted and have always gotten a nice response from him.  I do however feel that the Gameranger prog itself needs to be updated, it just gives off this 10 yr old vibe, u know kinda like how the Mac calculator hasnt been changed since the first mac came out    Overall i think GR is great, except for this past shutdown of GR cuz Evill is at the E3 thing.

vapor - i know i have said this before, i am not evills friend and i do think he can be an ass just like u guys say... it seems like ur two biggest probs are his banning methods and the help he provides to users; as far as bans go, the majority of bans i have seen are either for pirates (and dont even try to argue the legimate merits of hotline, we all know that a majority of it is for warez) as for the help he provides, if u ask an intelligent question u will get an answer (the only exception i have seen to this is inquiries about running gr in os x and/or classic)

with regards to advertising, logistically its kinda tough... its not like he could realistically advertise on radio, tv, or magazines (possibly a very small mac gaming mag)... one thing evill has done well is that recently game developers have been integrating gr into the games and the packaging (rs has the gr button and a section in the manual, risk has similar stuff, and i know many of the new games have given similar attention to gr)

finally - sbd, i take honor in u calling me an ass... now everyone seems to be jumping on the bandwagon u started... im so proud of u *tear*

i agree with grifter on this one.As far as my opinion goes,i would be willing to pay for a mac only game server.I have very little time to relax most days, and i generly like to spend it on gr. With it being down the last few days, it has turned out to be a big pain in my ASS!

Ok, since getting back on GR iv recently remembered wut is so gay about GR, and its the booting excuses.  First off all, do u know of any other chat client, such as mplayer or zone, that boots people for using CAPS-LOCK?!?! i mean wtf, thats so gay, y would u get booted for using caps-lock.  Is the button so illegal to use on GR that maybe we should just all remove our caps-lock buttons to stop the constant banning of  people for using caps-lock?!?

The Chat Flooding rule is kinda gay too. I've seen people say 1, 2, 3 and get booted for flooding.  Only 3 fucken lines!! do u call that chat flooding?!?! no!!! i call chat flooding saying something over and over for maybe about 10 lines, now that can flood up a server, but not 3 lines!!
