Ok just me again Wink
A new mappack is being discussed  which will Amalgamate the current mappacks plus add updates and any other data! A while back before season IX a proposed mappack 3.0 was released with mixed responce - a lot of folk liked the maps but there was also concern over the demand on peoples computers etc. Firstly by combining 1.5 and 2.5 we will (hopfully) elliminate a lot of the technical problems in terms of low FPS etc... but also streamline the process of keeping upto date with the Packs etc as future updates will be small and easy to install!

Anway back to business. Although we've had a lot of discussion about the problems with some of the current mappack maps, we've not had an overwhelming responce regarding popular alternatives. So this is a request to you guys to speak up now if you know of and can recommend or would like to see any new maps in the near future.

IT maps are still of the radar at this point in time however id like to draw your attention to a map called "The Outpost" ( part of the TG Map 1 package) which to give you an idea is a bit of a mix between the GhR maps "Village" and "caves" and in my eyes a extreamly good map... but comments  please Wink

also if you want a pointer to look at some maps the following two links should give you a bit to chew on!
http://www.ghostrecon.net/html/files-maps.htm
http://www.ghostrecon.net/html/maps.htm

Perhaps for those of you that aquired copys of the suggested 3.0 DAMN mappack could put a bit of time asside to revisit the maps (turn of the 1.5 mappack while you do this) keeping in mind that FPS etc should be a lot better ->
But of course any other suggestions are very welcome!

Sab and I worked on the *DMP 3.0 so I guess you could say I have some experience in that field.  Question - By combining the mappacks can we also get rid of some of the maps that are in the current mappacks as well?

Yeah, like the banned maps?  That would be helpful.

Problem is some of the maps in question are extreamly popular in games that arn't CB's...

So would you prefer the 'banned' maps to be removed and/or put in a different mappack? - ie having a *DAMN mappack and a *DAMN BL mappack?

Yes, that would be ideal.  Having two separate mappacks...one required for official ladder games, and the other just for fun public games.

Make it so.

I agree with GS, what about that one extremely intracate map shade, I can't remember what it was called.  It was the huge one.  Gah anyway that was a cool map.

Well this is Mauti's domain but it seems like the most logical idea for me to seperate the two and both allow people to play the old maps that they like, but also have a clean and upto date mod for CB's etc... Will keep you posted.

I think this is the best alternative.  Having all the maps in there to choose from will just get confusing and tempt people to choose banned maps during CB's.  I saw this a lot last season where De_Dust was banned yet everyone kept asking for it during FFA's because it was in the mappack.  Would be so much simpler just to not have it in the list of available maps.[/size]

Name the cb pack "DBLCB" and the regular games "DBLPUB"
then have the cbmaps be DBLCB_Aztec and the public maps be just DBL_De_Dust

Ein,

If you havn't noticed, Bunker Park has as many glitches as De Dust. You can easily crawl into the tower wall and see most of the map and the tunnels(trenches) become completely visible while in the wall.

In response to the idea of splitting the map packs into a cb one and a fun one:

I don't think that's a good idea, because why merging the current 2 mappacks to gain performance and then again split it. The mainreason why I would merge them is that if you use the mappack the game doesn't have to go through the directories of *DBL 1.5, then *DBL 2.55, look if some files are double or need to be overwritten... So we gain a bit performance. Well my idea and suggestion is to create a mappack merger that would change many map names and kitname files so it is clear what you can use without the need to look at the rules like any official allowed map for cbs will be named *DBL Name (LADDER), like *DBL Tower (TEAM) or *DBL Aztec (CQB-TEAM), maps that aren't allowed will be named like NOCB Reservoir, same with kitfiles and game modes. The VISE software allows me to do this. So everyone would only need to download the Map pack merger.

So back to the topic is there any map that you think could be great, what do you think about BFG's map suggestion,...

Bye,

Mauti

Personally, I don't think any map should be banned just because you have the ability to glitch on it.  I've said this many times before, but nobody seems to care.  There are some really big glitches on Tank and Castle Day, but everyone wants to overlook those because they are such popular maps.  Well, I don't think De_Dust or Bunker Park should be banned just because they have some really great glitches.  That's just basically telling the entire community that the *DBL thinks you are all a bunch of cheaters and can't be trusted not to glitch.  That's what it says to me anyways, and I've always taken great offense to it.

Mauti can we at least when we merge the map packs (I dont think this has been done yet) name the map like DBLcb_Aztec and DBL_De_Dust?  That is the best of both worlds, what the separating map pack was only wanting to help find out whether or not it is a cbable map.

Well, ya know... maybe I dont spend as much time trying to find glitches as others but I didnt know any of those maps could be glitched on. Maybe Im just too obsessed with actually playing the game than finding glitches. However i guess there are those who would try to find glitchs... Thats why you have the ability to ask for a replay if you dont know how they shot you or whatever. With a replay, you can look to see if that bullet that seemed to come from a wall was actually a glitch or not.

GS, like you, in my oppinion, no maps should be banned unless they are generally unplayable but I trust people ro play fairly... Maybe Im just wrong in doing that.

Alright, this is what Sab said:  Basically if we were to merge these two mappacks it will not make a single difference speedwise wether we merge them or keep them seperate.  Bascially the prefrences are all loaded from each maps wether they are in seperate mappacks or in the same one, so by merging these maps we are not solving any problems.

The only thing that we're doing is making it easier to handle with one mappack instead of a handful.

So basically now, do you want us to make us a new mappack or what?...because putting the two mappacks together won't make a difference at all.

as Mauti wrote in his post:

the main-difference would be that you only have to download one file instead of two. also, some small changes will be made.
what he wants is input from the community about what maps you like and, particularly, would like to see in the new *DAMN mappack if we were to add any. Smiley

ps: why didn't Sab post himself...? Wink
