Searching cheap hosting services!

if you know any cheap hosting services let me know please, because maybe it is time now to say goodbye to  GameSpy, except for mod hosting.

Required features:

- unlimited traffic
- at least 500MB webspace (10Gbyte - unlimited prefered)
- daily backup
- Perl, PHP, MySQL, MySQL admin
- SSI (Server Side Includes)
- FTP Access

Please post URL and may already add features and the monthly price.

I have already seen some good offers between 5 and 10 US Dollars per month without domain name, but I have only looked for european hosting services so far.

How many of the members of the *DAMN community live in Europe, how many live in the United States, and how many live elsewhere in the world?  Not trying to be difficult here, but shouldn't we use a service based out of a country where a Majority of our community lives?  Right now I would venture to say that there are more Americans in this community than from anywhere else in the world.  So why not find a good hosting service that is at least convenient for the majority of the community....say an East Coast U.S. service.

Except that Mauti and Elan run and over see the actual workings of the site. Everyone else merely oversees it. I think it makes more sense for them to be able to correspond with people close to them, rather than some guy in florida.

Despite common belief spike, Europe isn't a country. Sure they may be closer to them, but I'm closer to California than I am to the far reaches of Nunavut. If DAMN is serving the community, do we want to back track to the 30 seconds load times?

Spike hits the nail on the head. It is better to be able to call them if we have troubles and speak with them.

GS and Myst, lol I hope you are kidding, because you wouldn't notice any difference in loading speeds only if the server is located in europe it depends on the connection of the server. You would just face the usual at max the 100 to 200ms time delay...

From experience... It depends on what DAMN decides to do... They could do anything they want on their new servers.

The first thing we would like to do, to restore everything so that the Mac Downloads, forum and BL work as supposed to be.

In the long run, before the downtime we wanted to upgrade our forum to simple machines, which will happen now a little bit later.

Mods gonna still be hosted on FilePlanet.

Where do you have heard this? The reason why the Mac Downloads doesn't work anymore is that GS doesn't allow CGI scripts anymore...

I can't recall, I just remember hearing Fileplanet has been sketchy on mac recently.

Nothing else than speculations if you ask me and once again currently all hosted sites are affected by GameSpy's server issues and changes not only Mac. So this is a complete different story.
