Joystick calibration problems - Battlefield Beta Update 1
«
on:
August 17, 2004, 12:57:52 pm »
I have some problems with the calibration of my new logitech Extreme 3D pro.
I can use the stick with no problems. It is detected by my computer and i can configure it in Battlefield.
While I was trying out the different helicopters I noticed that the calibration was a bit off.
Unfortunaly Logitech has no mac support what so-ever.
Does anyone own the same Joystick and if so, do they have problems with it ?
Thanks in advance

....TAKE TWO OF THE NUGGETS.....AND PUT THEM UP YOUR ASS.
isn't there an app to set the calibration that comes with your stick? it's one of those things where you open it and then it asks you to move the joystick all the way left, then up down etc. should be there.

Like I said logitech doesn't have much of a mac-support.
It came with a cd but the thing is PC only.
Before you ask, yes the specs include OS9 +
ps which nuggets and why up my arse ?

I have been looking into the air.con files.
This is what my Air.con is setup like (gravis Destroyer Extreme):
ControlMap.addAxisToAxisMapping c_PIThrottle IDFGameController_0 IDAxis_2 1 1
ControlMap.addKeysToAxisMapping c_PIYaw IDFKeyboard IDKey_D IDKey_A
ControlMap.addAxisToAxisMapping c_PIPitch IDFMouse IDAxis_1 0
ControlMap.addAxisToAxisMapping c_PIPitch IDFGameController_0 IDAxis_1 1 1
ControlMap.addAxisToAxisMapping c_PIRoll IDFMouse IDAxis_0 0
ControlMap.addAxisToAxisMapping c_PIRoll IDFGameController_0 IDAxis_0 0 1
This is what the Saitek Cyborg joystick Air.con is setup like:
ControlMap.addKeysToAxisMapping c_PIThrottle IDFKeyboard IDKey_W IDKey_S
ControlMap.addAxisToAxisMapping c_PIThrottle IDFGameController_0 IDAxis_3 1 1
ControlMap.addKeysToAxisMapping c_PIYaw IDFKeyboard IDKey_D IDKey_A
ControlMap.addAxisToAxisMapping c_PIYaw IDFGameController_0 IDAxis_2 0 1
ControlMap.addAxisToAxisMapping c_PIPitch IDFMouse IDAxis_1 0
ControlMap.addAxisToAxisMapping c_PIPitch IDFGameController_0 IDAxis_1 1 1
ControlMap.addAxisToAxisMapping c_PIRoll IDFMouse IDAxis_0 0
ControlMap.addAxisToAxisMapping c_PIRoll IDFGameController_0 IDAxis_0 0 1
What do you think that extra line of code is? and do you need it?
You could try deleting it and see what happens.

Well I have been messing around with usb overdrive.
It seems you can calibrate your stick with this.
So I set up my joystick with overdrive and it works,
now i'm just testing out different sesitivities.

sure.
http://www.usboverdrive.com/
It's an app that let's you configure every kind of mouse/trackball/joystick/gamepad.
Quote
The USB Overdrive is a universal USB driver that handles all USB mice, trackballs, joysticks and gamepads from any manufacturer and lets you configure them either globally or on an application-specific basis. It reads all kinds of wheels, buttons, switches and controls and supports scrolling, keyboard emulation, launching as well as all the usual stuff like clicking, control-clicking and so forth. The USB Overdrive can easily handle several USB devices at once- I have two mice, one trackball, two joysticks and one gamepad connected to the same iMac, and each of them comes from a different manufacturer.
? Because each control in each device can be fully configured, the USB Overdrive lets you use any joystick or gamepad with any game, including the ones that don't support Apple's InputSprocket. You can map your joystick movements and buttons to the keyboard and mouse to make the game believe you're playing on the keyboard, and you can do this mapping separately for each game so that it's immediately available as soon as the game is launched.
? The mouse settings allow you to speed up your daily tasks by assigning useful actions to all the extra buttons and wheels in your USB mouse. You'll typically want to assign a control-click to the right button for easy contextual menu acces, and enable document scrolling if your mouse has a scrolling wheel.
? The Control Panel includes an active help feature that explains each command and option as you move the cursor around.
Still messing with it, I'll post my finds if I make some progress.

Like I said logitech doesn't have much of a mac-support.
I noticed that... got myself a Logitech desk mic and it fucks up all the time. I'm always having to restart my comp in the middle of cb's and shit. Couldn't find any drivers for it or anything, and no software.
EDIT: No, I wasn't just saying my mic fucked up to delay the cbs, it really did

Well I got a reply from Logitech (it's in dutch so I can't quote it).
But basically they say that my model (xtreme 3D pro) is a digital joystick, which means it should calibrate itself. Unplugging and re-plugging the usb should do the trick. I'll give that a go.
As far as the usb overdrive business; I configured the joystick and it seems to work except the throttle. I have a small throttle switch on my joystick.
Normally It should gradually go from 0 to full, but with the overdrive it goes 0 -full without any "steps" in between. So I cannot fly slower; just full throttle or death dive.

Ok, my joystick works flawlessly now. It took me forever to figure out how to calibrate my stick and finally worked it out last night while my isp connection was down.
Go into you options screen and go to your controls. (make sure you plug in your stick before you launch the game). Click on options/controls. Then click the air tab. You will already see pre-set keys for your stick but that doesn't matter. First make sure you slider/throttle is in the back position. Now left click on the fist pre-set then push the slider all the way forward. Now left click on the next pre-set and pull the slider all the way back. Do this for all the stick axis's and hit save. Your stick should now perfectly like mine.
If you need some help PM me on GR
