The DSP 400 is foldable as-well as the whole adjustable mic and the usual headphone adjust-abilities.

HOLY AMAZING AUDIO SOUND BATMAN!  I just picked up teh Beyerdynamics DT 234 pro head set and all I can say is wow.  The sound quality is amazing.  The price is a hefty $100.00 USD but by far the best sound quality I have ever heard.

I have an iMic but i dont use it anymore. Lower quality headsets require two ports for two plugs one that has a headphone logo and one that has a mic logo. On Macs, the mic port does not exist so u are forced to buy an iMic. I dont use it anymore because the better headsets use USB.

Static, most macs don't support line in headsets without a few USB adapters. The only way you're guaranteed it working is with a USB connection.

To transfer the audio to the stereo in the next room, sometimes to record stuff to the computer.

I use the iMic to connect to my headset, the VXi Parrot Translator.  I use this strictly for when I use iListen, a Voice Recognition app.  Don't really know if the iMic does what its supposed to do.

no those head sets are not line in.. they are mic in.. thats a BIG BIG DIFF.. most tower designed macs still support line in... but mic in (wich is what the mic on the headset needs) spuulies more voltage out to power the mic so it will pick up right. The only head sets that use the line in jack are ones that are self powered (or also known as phantom powered in the pro audio world) Phantom powered mic are usualy the more expencive ones b/c they are better quality.. so you wont find too many of these n coputer head sets (they require more voltage then the mic input gives out)

Before my DSP 400, I bought a (non-USB) Plantronics .90 to find it didn't work with the G5. I don't know hat in the hell you are talking about but perhaps we're talking about the ancient things that were on the 6320 and IIsi I own. Either way USB is the safest bet for high quality and can be in the low end and the very high end.

Very true Myst.  But if someone is willing to drop a 100 bucks on a headset, I guess the extra 35 bucks or so isn't giong to break the bank. (for the iMic)

I use the Edirol UA-3 FX USB Auto Capture device, or my M-Audio Revolution Sound PCI card.  (on my G4)  I've also used the iMic in the past.  There are may options out there.  You just have to be willing to pay for them.  Nice sound doesn't come cheap.

I've used the Plantronics USB headsets and had VERY bad luck with them.  (the 300, 400, and 500's)  All of them crapped out after about 2 months.  So I decided to buy better and have been using this set-up for almost a year now.  (I started with a cheap-o headset then bought the BeyerDynamics)  I look at it this way, you buy cheap, you get cheap.  The Plantronics are NOT cheap and I could see spending 50-100 bucks every two months.  Thats $400.00 or more a year in headsets.  The $400.00 I spent on the UA-3FX and the Beyer heatset will last much longer than a year.  Plus the sound is extremly clear and crisp.
