Ghost Recon et al
«

I am pretty new to playing computer games and I recently got Ghost Recon for my Mac; I really like the game. However, there seems to be some kind of a bug in the software, since i always SUCK! In fact, the same annoying bug crops up in all of the combat games I try to play. (surely it can't be ME!)
When I play on Gameranger, I just join whatever game has room and figure what the hell, I'm as smart as the next guy. But I get dropped into these strange environments with folks I don't know who always just DESTROY me! I hardly ever see who killed me, even though i slink around carefully and try to keep hidden as much as possible. I get killed in situtions where i would swear no one could ever see me in million years.
I am starting to get the idea that these people are cooperating in some organized way, that they usually know each other and have some kind of a battle plan or at least some idea what each other is gonna do. And where I am gonna go. Although I never see any sign of tactical communication between them. lately i just try to follow someone else and take some cues from them, but still, I am getting slaughtered -- and I see other guys come out of these 10-minute games with like ten or 20 kills! Are you kidding me?
I hate to bother people on gameranger when they are trying to play. But i could sure use some help getting better at this. or is it just unlikely that a single guy who doesn't know the maps, the games or any of the people is going to ever do well on his own? I mean, all I know is what's in the GR manual. There seems to be much more going on. Like what's WARZONE? What constitutes "control of the battle zone?" And is there some kind of battle "etiquette" that says certain styles are not cool? I see folks getting blasted for using too many granades, for example, or for playing support. I mean, how's a guy know how to act? Sheesh! I just in the last couple weeks learned about the existence of "clans," and found this more or less central site. Now I suspect that almost everyone is part of one. I wish there were some kind of general "how-to" guide that would teach "noobs" like me about the world of online gaming over and above the simple operation of their game software. General survival tactics. How to find a clan. Do's and don'ts. Pros and cons of various battle games.
In other words, the packaged "basic training" in these games is obviously not enough to make a decent warrior. If I could find further training or advice, i would be there like a shot. Or at least to be playing games where a lot of dumb questions are encouraged. I'd like to have at least a couple of online friends who would like to work out some kind of tactics with me. 'Cause I'm tired of being "meat for the grinder." I just wanna KILL!
Any advice would be greatly appreciated, even if you just want to drop your name so i can look for you on gameranger sometime and get some pointers.
Thanks for reading.

You need to find other people that aren't in clans or that are as new as you that you can play with to find GhR identity.

hey there,
i rember when i was like this its no big deal u get PWNED like there is no tomarrow for a few weeks, then ull start to understand the maps. also as to the fact that u think everyone is conspiring against u, well u probably not to far off, there is something called in voice chat that allows premium members on Game Ranger to talk to eachother in game, incase u didnt know the premium members are the ones in blue. as for getting good, i would try and getting into the newer clans out there. thats how i learned how to play. and as for getting caped and not knowing where the shots came from thats the way that Ghost recon is played, ull soon learn your way around the maps and that if u see a guy dont stand still, hit the deck or move side to side. single shot burst is a lot more accurate. and gun of choice i would say for a noob is probably the OICW/nades or the SA80 with nades. but the only true way to get better is to just go out there and get ur ass kicked untill u finnally understand. everyone goes through.

Pretty much all you need in this or any other tactical first person shooter game is the capability to conduct logical conclusions, and ofcourse map knowledge dosen't hurt.
Just try to find game rooms where other less experienced players dwell and you should be ok, good luck.

First thing to do is to start to get the hang of the maps. Often in ghost recon peoples positions are given away without them ever being seen. This can be because they kill someone or are in an obvious position.
Embassy is probably the best map to start with. First you'll need to learn the spawn points and the general layout of the map. Also start to get some idea of where people move. After you feel comfortable with a map you can move to "in game analysis" ;-)
Everytime someone dies look at your map to see where. In some cases when someone dies you can tell where they were shot from as there are few possible sightlines to where they died.
Always look at your map and check for holes in your teams formation and flanking opportunities.
Ghost recon is one of the few games I've played with a flow. There's a time to move and a time to camp. The wrong approach will get you shot :-). The trick is knowing the flow of the game.
Hmmmm. May have been a bit philosophical with that last statement.

Dood... Lakota, cause you seem so cool... I'd like to invite you to join BTs. We're a cool clan, and I think you'll like all of us. We'll teach you the ropes, and you can hang out with us on netfone if you like. u need a mic though... so if you don't have one, GET ONE!
When we see that you're better and you should be ok being thrown into the mad world of game ranger... we'll boot you... and then you can start your own clan or join another. I don't know about how all people feel about us... but I know generally we are a respected clan and rank among the highest rated players on all of Game Ranger. If you like that Idea, send me an email to
signtist@battleteksquad.com
and we'll chat. Later!

Hey thats really cool of you Sign...
Anyway... play with other "noobs" a lot, get to know the maps, experiment, play. Heh... I remember the first few weeks of playing GhR - I was just trying to stay alive the whole game lol.
Once you find all the main spots where people like to hang out, and you memorize the spawn points, things should be much easier. You will know where to look for people, and where people can shoot you from. Then you gotta just work on your aim and shooting technique.
Basically, you gotta just play a lot. There are a few basic tips that you can be taught, but most of it you have to just learn on your own.

and then , when you became a bit better ,you play on gameranger and then you watch how the other move trought the world , but never folow 2 close!
