What the hell is the difference between these 2 cards? or are they the same. I cant find any info on the 9800XT w/256mb anywhere and thats the upgrade card that you can select when buying the new G5.

Both have 256mb vram and both are a 9800. Someone please tell me. lol

**update** I actually found this, but the SE isnt in the comparison chart.

Both kick ass cards, you'd probably not be able to tell the difference Smiley

I believe so, i know the Radeon 9800XT won't work in anything other than a G5.

The 9800 SE is specificaly designed for the g5... I believe the xt has outputs to TV's but im not 100% sure of that.

I would believe that is the other way around. If its true what your saying Lee, why wouldnt they offer the SE as an option in the graphics cards when i purchased the G5. My only option for a high end card was the XT. So I would assume that is the card that is specifically designed for the G5...or I coule be wrong. Just sounds logical to me.

No The SE does not have the TV outs.. It has A DVI and ADC connections (I would know. I recently installed the SE in my g5) In it discription it is a G5 only card.... http://www.ati.com/products/radeon9800/radeon9800proseme/specs.html

Very nice! All you need now are a few games that actually require half the tech that is on these cards!
... then again a copy of Doom III or HL2 should they make it to the mac should certainly do the trick!;)

Yea.. but i have been having prob w/ the SE due to a fucked up driver that ATI put out so it rendered small pixels of whats behind 3d objects (like you can see colors of whats behind wall ingames... but not enough to see what there.. just small pixels of it flashing on and off across the screen.. im still waiting for them to release an update b/c the temp solution for the prob didnt fix it... but all thats in my other thread about this card. Other then the smallprob.. It fixed the other vid prob i was having in RvS w/ the nvidia card.

Hmm.. U guys seen that ATI have got an advert out looking for a experienced programmer to build drivers for their Mac Cards, 8-10 years experience and must know OpenGL inside out!?! Sounds good, another fulltime post helping inprove the cards support is allways nice! Smiley

The XT version has a faster memory and engine speed and a higher fillrate then the 9800 SE. Both Mac cards only have ADC and DVI outputs, they unfortunaly removed the TV output. *GRMBL*. Further you can only get the XT as bto.

Bye,
