Letter to the Editor
by Sharon Underwood, Sunday, April 30, 2000
from the Valley News (White River Junction, VT/Hanover, NH)
As the mother of a gay son, I've seen firsthand how cruel and misguided people can be.
Many letters have been sent to the Valley News concerning the homosexual menace in Vermont. I am the mother of a gay son and I've taken enough from you good people.
I'm tired of your foolish rhetoric about the "homosexual agenda" and your allegations that accepting homosexuality is the same thing as advocating sex with children. You are cruel and ignorant. You have been robbing me of the joys of motherhood ever since my children were tiny.
My firstborn son started suffering at the hands of the moral little thugs from your moral, upright families from the time he was in the first grade. He was physically and verbally abused from first grade straight through high school because he was perceived to be gay.
He never professed to be gay or had any association with anything gay, but he had the misfortune not to walk or have gestures like the other boys. He was called "fag" incessantly, starting when he was 6.
In high school, while your children were doing what kids that age should be doing, mine labored over a suicide note, drafting and redrafting it to be sure his family knew how much he loved them. My sobbing 17-year-old tore the heart out of me as he choked out that he just couldn't bear to continue living any longer, that he didn't want to be gay and that he couldn't face a life without dignity.
You have the audacity to talk about protecting families and children from the homosexual menace, while you yourselves tear apart families and drive children to despair. I don't know why my son is gay, but I do know that God didn't put him, and millions like him, on this Earth to give you someone to abuse. God gave you brains so that you could think, and it's about time you started doing that.

Yeah, that quote stood out quite a bit to me too, BFG. More proof of the hypocritical Christian menace?
Not just Christians of course, but they're my target of choice, since they seem the ones that target gays the most, so...HEY! LET'S ALL GO TO SAN FRAN AND GET MARRIED! WOOO! No? damn...

Damn... She kind of nailed that one on the head. Let's say there were 10 million homosexuals in the United States. Would that be too low or too high? Either way, out of the 300 million or so Americans in the U.S., even 30 million would be kind of a small number. Only 10%. I've actually met people who think America's going to hell in a hand bag, and it's the fault of the illiterate African Americans, the capitalist pig Jews, and those immoral homosexuals. Wow... add those three groups up, and they are still a minority compared to wacky Republicans.

I'm gonna have to disagree Brain. I'd say the group running things these days is the ultra-right wing christian fundamentalists (of which GS may or may not be a member) who simply exercise their power through the republican party.
So it looks like the source of the world's problems these days is fundamentalists on both sides. What say we put them all in a room and have them sort it out and leave the rest of us bloody well out of it?
I'd also like to issue a blanket statement reminding everyone of the dangers of partisan politics. Just because A is better than B doesn't mean A is any good either.

Yep. For every nutball there's an equal and opposite nutball.

Took me some time to see this, but I have been busy celebrating the......colours..yes.
as for grey saying we all die anyway....well, I would hope we all die happily....as gays or straight. People who are gay and voice their sexuality in public should be applauded because they step on a tabu and ridicule it. The are themselves and nothing is better. Gays who hide it should be pitied because they dont dare to stand up to the abuse and ridicule from normals. And its not only christians that are abusing homosexuals...its just that they are louder than the rest. I think christians have a hard time accepting the fact that christianity is about love for your next. Sorry to say it but most christians i talk to are too busy defending the "donts" of the bible instead of celebrating the "do's". What happened to the forgiving christian? Lost to hypocracy i guess.
Take care ppl, and be nice.

Yeah, Christians are assclits. They should die. Hehe jk (sorta). Anyway, I actually think Vermont is the only state where gay marriages are legal, and I know they aren't in Fan Sanfrisco... err San Francisco.

I agree with BFG, that is quite a letter.
Reminded me of a webpage I was linked to yesterday that made me angry ?
http://www.spies.com/~gus/ran/0012/antiporn/index.html
(The Anti-Porn Guy!) and
http://www.godhatesfags.com/main/index.html
(God Hates Fags). It's the vehement irrationality wrapped in a tone of such absolute righteousness that just blows my mind. What could possibly possess a person to be such a complete fuckwit (and damned if they ain't proud of it!)?
At first I wondered if the Anti-Porn guy adopted his inane disposition because he wasn't getting any...
Conclusion: Affirmative.

This is just disgusting. How can someone think/behave like this? I'll be dammed but Christiantity has a hell of a lot to answer for.
Im not a violent guy honest, but when people do this... i just want to beat some common sense into them. i wouldn't and i shouldn't think it. but it just really gets my blood boiling.
ps... that isn't Dubbya on his computer screen is it?

Hah. I know what you mean. The only intolerence I can justify is that of unjustifiable intolerence.

You bet it is. This guy sounds like he'd rather die (or kill, apparently) upholding the moral will of Mr. Bush (a true Man of God?) than think for himself. He says:
Quote
Anti-Porn Guy:
I support implementing a Federal Anti-Vice Squad (FAVS) that will enforce all the morality laws enacted once fellow moralists are elected to high positions in government. The FAVS will have full search and seizure powers and will be able to, for example, demand a spare key from someone to search homes for pornography or tobacco, etc
If he is ever successful in his dream of becoming a politician here in the US of A...well...he'd just fucking better not.
