Gore Rages Against the Machine

Here is a transcript of the speech Al Gore gave last night at New York University. While I don't agree with him on every point he makes (and oh boy does he make a lot), I totally agree with 90% of what he says. It's well thought out and though it is a bit long, it does tie together everything very nicely.

So much has happened these past few years it's really hard to keep track of it all. This speech really brought everything into focus for me and I'm more convinced than ever that Bush is the worst thing that's happened to our country in a long time, if not the worst thing ever.

There is so much here I could quote, I really don't know where to start. For being so long, it's packed with information. This quote, however, I think sums up most of the speech:

How did we get from September 12th , 2001, when a leading French newspaper ran a giant headline with the words "We Are All Americans Now" and when we had the good will and empathy of all the world -- to the horror that we all felt in witnessing the pictures of torture in Abu Ghraib.

I'm really encouraged (relieved?) to find more and more democrats starting to grow a pair and really speak out against this war and against the bush administration. Hopefully now people won't be so afraid to say things that desperately need saying and ask questions that desperately need asking.

We're in a bad place today. What we've witnessed these past few years is no less than a total failure of American Democracy. At every level we have failed, Executive, Legislative, Judicial, the Media and at the core level, the people of this country have failed. We all have blood on our hands. It's time to admit our mistakes and, come November, set things right again.

Seeing if Gore's going to be remembered as the boring stiff from pre-2000 or the firebrand conscience of the Democratic party.

A few questions, when did Gore become a black southern baptist preacher.  the audio on this is beyond hilarious.  He doesn't sound close to what he used too.  And it's funny how he finds a soul so long after he lost the election.  I guess narrowly being president will stir a little something out of you a lot too late.

I dunno, watching your democracy come apart at the seams might just be enough motivation to get up off your ass and try to change things. No matter what the reason, I can't see this as anything but a good thing. Hopefully others will begin to talk and, at the very least, an open and honest debate will result.
