Every morning i wake up to a show called Democracy Now ( www.democracynow.org ) aired on KPFA (94.1).  It's an independent news channel that reports on most story's we don't hear.  There are a lot of good reports that if i had my way you would all hear, but that'll never happen.  For now i'd like to share this one that made me late for work today.

It's a report made by an award winning UK reporter who used to work for the BBC, and now is doing independent film on his own.

Direct link to MP3 of show (played in quicktime):  http://audio06.archive.org/2/audio/dn2004-0520/dn2004-0520-1_64kb.mp3

Yah, posted on this awhile ago. They captured a few hundred or thousand guys then let the local warlords move them from one prison to the next. They were transported in steel containers, packed in like sardines (or, if you perfer World War II references: packed in like Jews). They suficated hundreds.

This actually happened quite some time ago. I must stress that US soldiers were not involved in this incident. It was the mujah-hadeen (or whatever) who did it. US special forces soliders knew it happened, though they were powerless to stop it.

It's disgusting and wrong, but I don't think it's something we could have stopped. How do you stop someone from mistreating their prisoners when they outnumber you and you need their help to win the war? Do we even have a right to interfere?

A special forces friend of mine showed me pictures of hooded and zip-tied prisoners the US had captured in afghanistan.  I asked what had happened to them, and he said they were handed over to the northern alliance who convieniently and most likely executed them.

Who's side are we on?  These prisoners were once on a side that we happily armed 20 years ago with our shoulder missiles.

Maybe we don't have direct responsability, or do we?  who's to judge?  And does it effect us in the future?

This happend a long time ago... I saw several reports and investigations into it - good radio report bwt.

Its interesting to know where people found out about this - where it made it to the news, where it didn't.

If those massacres arn't war crimes i don't know what are.
