Well last night someone asked Evill what he thought about this new Gamesmith coming out.? His reply was go try it out for yourself.? I was rather confused, not thinking that it was out in any way or form yet.? But it comes attached to a game called Last Contact.? Then Evill gave us this link.? http://lastcontact.greendragon.com/download.html? He sounded pretty confident and now I know why.?

Gamesmith is a type of Gameranger with many less features.? In Gamesmith there are no buddy lists, real preferences, icon choices or instant messages, you have to write /msg Infection.? Also, there are no account numbers so you can't call someone a noob =).? Not a big deal but I would have had one of the newer ones if it was to become popular.

While the feature mentioned above can be lived without, these problems can't.? Normally for this Gamesmith you would want some games for it no?? There are like 5 freeware games on Gamesmith.? Nothing that I've ever heard of, none impressive at all.? When one of the creators was asked about games coming out he delayed and said that we should just look at the site www.gamesmith.biz and take a look at the developers and take a guess.? It doesn't look like they will be having Rogue Spear though guys.? Also it isn't going to be a separate application for a while, 2-3 weeks now maybe.?

There were about 15 users on, along with a few people from gameranger that came with me to check it out.? Evill, Reaper, Ejo and Agt Snipe.? Only 15 people!?
Then the unthinkable happened.? The server crashed. .? We gave the creator, Bryon, this list of problems and things that need to be added.? He thought about some of them but I didn't find Gamesmith to be very impressive.? It would have been nice if he was atleast different from Gameranger.? But to be basically the same as Gameranger with many less features.? Blah, you guys should check it out for yourself and judge.

This is a quote from a really old thread about our experiences trying out GameSmith when it was first released. You can read that thread here.

Anyway, today I saw a story on IMG that said GameSmith Reaches 50,000 Users

Maybe it's just me, but I find it interesting to look back on really old threads when new stuff about them comes up.

*sighs* I have to call every one of you morons. None of you were around when Gameranger was starting out, so you dont know how it was. Give this thing a little bit to develop itself and I am sure they will get the kincks and other problems worked out. I am sure it will later incorporate a buddy list, more games, etc...you have to give things a little time. I am sure they didn't waste their money to make a simple chat application.

Hell, you all seem to be lacking in short term memory when Gameranger would crash for weeks at a time with no explanation.

hehe...Sin was right.  It only took about 1 year and 8 more months to come to this level Wink.  I do remember that day clearly, it doesn't seem so long ago when we had our 'bad trip.'  Gamesmith has become very popular though it still only possess' freeverse software.  I'm going to check it out...Snipe do you know if that creator when we went that night is still around or what his name was?

Some things to keep in mind, as I recall, creating a GameSmith account doesn't require an email address (just a username and password), so you can quickly and easily sit there and keep creating accounts if you want. Combine that with ranking for all accounts, and there's even more incentive for people to create multiple accounts.

Yes, I know people do create extra free email addresses just so they can create multiple accounts on GameRanger, but at least it's a higher barrier.

Also, I believe for a while, GameSmith didn't use shared client preferences between the different Freeverse games (remember it's built into each game). People were creating new accounts for each Freeverse game they played or tried. Not to mention the number of new accounts that would be created by people not remembering the username/password to their old accounts, resulting from a) no auto-login like GameRanger, and b) no email address to mail back the account/password details.

Well I tried it out today.  There were about 40 people on in total of all the chat rooms and 6 games being played.  It's more impressive than it was a couple of years ago but still lacking in several areas.  I personally do not like the face of the chat room and how small the chat area is.  It's very hard to see who is talking.  It's nice to see the ranking system but like Scott said you can have as many accounts as you like and get new ranks for each game whenver you want.  Besides who really needs to be ranked in these simple free games anyway?  You don't have anything to worry about Scott, it's far behind Gameranger Wink.

Oh, I'm not worried about them. I just happen to analyse statistics and models in great detail, and call BS on PR lies, ie. what Freeverse is particularly fond of doing.

yeah I downloaded it after the thread came up, and was not particularly impressed. The gamesmith site doesnt seem to well thought out, or even completed. The games are all card games, or simple arcade games. Its just like yahoo! games, except as a mac program. Definatly not anything to dl
