A blast from the past...

« on: April 20, 2004, 06:03:17 am »

I could think of no other place to ask this question. My room mate is thinking of getting a Powerbook for school/occasional gaming. His price range is approximately $1500...what should he get?

A few questions to ask:

1) Will this be his only computer? If not, what are the specs on his other computer(s). Also, does he have an extra monitor he wants to hook this up to?

2) What screen resolution is he looking for, and what is the lowest resolution he would accept.

3) What games does he want to play on it?

4) What other processor intensive apps does he use?

well, if he's a student tell him to look into apple educational deals first to see what he can get.

i've got a PBG4 867MHz, and it's never given me any trouble and does fine with 'occasional gaming'. i wouldn't call it the ideal gaming machine by any stretch, but it suits my purposes well.

Well, I think we found a damn good powerbook for his price range...price drop because of the new powerbooks being released.

G4 1.25 GHz, 15.2" screen (1280x854),
512MB PC2700 (2 DIMMS, no open slots),
80GB HD,
DVD-R/CDRW SuperDrive,
Gigabit Ethernet, V.92 modem,
built-in Bluetooth,
built-in Airport Extreme card,
FireWire 400 & 800,
USB 2.0, DVI & S-video out,
64MB Radeon 9600,
built-in stereo speakers,
backlit keyboard, & mic.

About $1600 before tax
