If you like last stand type battles then there is no other battle more suitable than the Alamo. It opens tomorrow 2/9 in theaters  and stars people like Billy Bob Thorton (I needs some taters mmmmhm) and some other high name actors. Not to mention I was an extra in it as a doomed Texan Grin . Go and see it yadda yadda yadda it is very professional.

I've spent some time looking into this film and have come away unimpressed.

The whole movie is about the Alamo itself and everyone dying.

That's kinda cool, but I really doubt that Ron's pulled off an exciting two hours of seige warfare. And Ron's been slipping of late and everythin I hear, and I work in the biz, points south. Look at his last movie, THE MISSING. Sucked some incredible ass, despite two of the world's most interesting actors (Tommy Lee Jones and Cate Blanchett). And Blanchett was amazing in it.

They shoulda made the movie OPEN on the Alamo, the siege. Then they shoulda shown the Texans chasing down Santa Anita. And fucking his shit up. Didja know when they caught Santa he was dressed as a women? What a closing! Huston blowing away the Mexicans and then finding their glorious leader trying to escape while in a dress.

As it is, I think at best the movie will play like a poor man's GLORY. Except THEY'LL NEVER WIN A SINGLE BATTLE. At least in GLORY you got to see them fuck shit up for a while till they were all killed.

Not a bad movie, a little too over dramatic though. I think I give it extra marks for not pulling a "Pearl Harbor" on us.

Here is a crash course in the Texas Revolution for you Euros (I do not blame you for being in the dark, I did not know about it until I moved to Texas from St. Petersburg).

Back in the early 19th Century a large amount of American colonists (mostly from the Southern portion of the United States) moved into an area in the Northern regions of the Spanish colony of Mexico. With the exception of the Spaniards forcing the mostly protestant colonists to practice Roman Catholicism the American colonists had very little restrictions. However, when Mexico became independent General Santa Anna started to impose more restrictions on the colonists. The Texans started to revolt and formed an Army to combat Santa Anna. Some skirmishes occured such as an ambush on a silver caravan and what not.

This is where the Alamo comes in. The Alamo is an old Roman Catholic Mission that sat in the middle of what was then the only facet of civilization of Texas. That being the traditional provincial capital of San Antonio. In an attempt to keep Santa Anna's armies from routing Sam Houston's Army a group of Texan revolutionaries under the command of Col. William Travis held up to delay Santa Anna. The revolutionaries were brutaly crushed.

After the Alamo Sam Houston did defeat and capture Santa Anna and Texas was its own Republic for 10 years until it became a US state in 1845. Many people regret Texas being a state.

, and I work in the biz,

Well, when I see your name on some major movie credits....like director, producer, etc, then I will take more stock in what you think.   Smiley

I work for the guys (Producers) who made Robin Hood Prince of Thieves and Backdraft. They also ran the Outer Limits TV show, Magnificent Seven, and the new Twilght Zone. They've done a lot of other stuff as well. Two things we're working on right now are a Ron Shelton movie (the dude who made White Men Can't Jump) and a historical epic about the Taj Mahol.

So while you won't see my name in the lights, I do work for those kinda guys. Take it as you will.

I made a booboo in regards to Ron Howard. He DIDN'T direct this new Alamo movie. He was orginally going to direct it with Russel Crowe. The original concept was the one I mentioned earlier - beginning on the Alamo then following the story of Sam Huston as he whooped ass (that'd be Crowe's role). Sadlly, Disney decided they didn't want to spend the Ron Howard Russel Crowe kinda money. So the movie sucks. Shrug. You get what you pay for.

The current Alamo was directed by John Lee Hancock, the guy who directed THE ROOKIE.

Actually I wanted you to see me get shot by a Mexican. My death is somewhere there in the background. Then again you can see that in RvS.
