I updated to version 1.2 of Safari last night, and I am perceiving a significant speed increase in loading pages. It finally seems as fast as the PC version of IE. I'm wondering if it's my imagination or if you guys are noticing similar speed improvements.

Unfortunately, the new version still contains the implementation bugs that have annoyed me since the Safari beta, such as the inability to use Page Up/Down and Home/End in the Bookmarks display, the incredibly slow loading of the Bookmarks menu, the inability to autocomplete bookmarks via page name rather than URL, and the delay in jumping to anchors until the entire page is loaded.

Fortunately, they finally modified downloading of links and images so that you can choose where to save the download. That is a vast improvement over Safari simply dumping everything into your preset download location.

To download new Safari go to

Question: is it worth the money to upgrade to Panther or should I just wait till I can snag a copy off my Gramps or one of my freinds?

Yes, jump on Panther. It's definitely worth what they're charging.

the new safari is much faster when it renders tables, and the like. However it still contains it fair share of nasty css incompatibilities, as well as not supporting certain html tags. However the css problems can usually be placed squarely on the web designer. But naturally you can expect these things if your not using ie 6x on windows xp.

if you want the nerdy low down on mac browsers
http://hotwired.lycos.com/webmonkey/reference/browser_chart/index_mac.html
the new version of firebird is still now the most compatible, and fastest browser on mac.

What sold me on safari was not only the google bar, but tabs. Tabs are soooooo hot. 5 different web pages all in one window with super-convenient switching among them... very nice.

Anyway, I'm never really good at judging speed increases with updates, cause i can't remember exactly how fast pages loaded in the earlier version.

Oh well... still freakin' fast!

just noticed that the new Safari does some strange things to the *DAMN BL site, which heavily uses CSS:

* The use of the "padding" attribute has been changed
* <input> tags (buttons, checkboxes, menus, ...) can now be resized with the "font-size" attribute.

Mb its my comp, but Safari is running slower then ever. It took me 2 mins to get in the DAMN site. Sad

The only site that loads quicker is the apple site.

And flash with php database isn't correctly supported, the text just doesn't appear anymore...

I love Safari, but the only thing that apple should have done was to keep what IE has, that is, when you run your cursor over a link it will tell you in the bottom left corner box whether the link is a .jpeg or .mpg or others.   I really depend on this feature, especially when looking at p__n  Smiley
