probably a pioneer, they seem to make good drives. 4x or higher burn speed.
You might want to check reviews on cnet or xlr8yourmac.com

The only use i've found for the dvd burner in my g5 is to make copies of my favorite dvds from netflix. Check out dvdbackup and dvd2oneX if your interested in that. It works well, but you won't have any menus or extras.

Lacie are really good and durable, we have an external Lacie DVD burner and an external Lacie CD burner.  We have had them for years and they are extremely reliable.

As far as Mac, if its an external DVD burner then NO, if its a internal DVD burner I honestly don't know (since I don't have one), but I would imagince YES.  For those that don't know, there IS a difference b/w internal and external DVD burner.  I just tried it with my external Lacie DVD burner and the DVD Player software does launch on the monitor but it will not play.
