Oh, then just replace song number 12 with the Taliban Song (Toby Keith).

I wouldn't say these are the best songs ever... but they are some of my favorites.

My list in no particular order-

1. Tool- Sober
2. Deftones- Bored
3. Led Zeppelin- Stairway to Heaven
4. Soundgarden- 4th of July
5. Deftones- RX queen
6. Filter- Hey man nice shot
7. Deftones- fireal
8. Soundgarden- Fell on black days
9. System of a Down- I-E-A-I-A-I-O
10. Nirvana- lithium
11. Staind- Outside
12. Pearl Jam- black

I changed this list like a hundred times before I posted it =x

To Spike: Hurt is a Nine Inch Nails song and in my opinion better when they sing it.

If i think 12 best songs ever for a road trip, i think classic rock. I guess these would be somewhere near the top.
Sweet Emotion - Aerosmith
Freebird - Lynard Skynard
I can see for miles - the who
Boston - more than a feeling
Then have your pick amongst AC/DC, Zepplin, Santana, Jonny Cash (one without his wife singing).

btw, Tool SUCKS! if i wanted to listen to songs about fisting men i'd listen to duran duran or loverboy

i realize its a NIN song, but i think cash sings it better. it seems like the whole song is about drugs(cash was a herion addict.....i think) death/sadness(cash covered this right before he died, and right after he died, i think he knows about loss) i just think the song applied more to cash than to resnor(sp?)

Sadly bronto, i don't reject society or am angry at life. Therefore i don't like to listen to songs dark songs with moaning that revolve around depression. I've listened to quite a few tool songs, and nothing sounded worth listening to more than once.

I love how no one can use quotes anymore.... Just because the music is inspired by depression or with a vibe of it doesn't mean you have to be depressed to like it. You could just be like "wow that is a really good/fucked up song about some guy being depressed." Jazz? What's that? Sounds like a candy to me. Huh

How about in no particular order:

Captain Jack by Billy Joel
Karn Evil 9 by Emerson, Lake & Palmer
Like a Rolling Stone by Bob Dylan
Thunder Road by Bruce Springsteen
The Devil Went Down to Georgia by The Charlie Daniels Band
Fortunate Son by CCR
Space Oddity by David Bowie
Hotel California by The Eagles
The Pretender by Jackson Browne
Aqualung by Jethro Tull
Purple Haze by Jimi Hendrix
Crazy Game of Poker by OAR

There's a bunch more, but thats a good selection (at least for me) :-D.

Supertramp, Rush, and Van Halen also have some really good stuff. I'm a classic rock fan, if you couldn't tell already.
