We lock stupid flamewar threads not in an effort to quash freedom of speech, but in an effort to stop all the crap that makes the forums lame. Trust me, it's gotten out of hand at times, and nobody wants to visit the forums anymore. Besides, you have absolutely 0 rights to freedom of speech on these boards. Remember that.

These forums have been around for longer than most of you have been on GameRanger....and they are still around. A majority of the people support what we do because the last thing we need is another flame fest like the other day when some clan came here whining about another clan and their server. WE also lock threads like this one as well, because we don't need to have our actions questioned....go read the the thread at the top of the page concerning moderation.

I'll leave this thread open for now so everyone can see it...this is the official warning for the forum newbies. If you don't like how this forum is run, go find a new one like Snipey did.

If stemming msot of the shit that flows on this forum is close minded, then so be it. The last thing any of the moderators want is to sift through more shit of people whining and/or complaining that their spam and flames have been locked or deleted. I welcome personal messages asking for explanation when it comes to a borderline call, but to have every single person make a new thread like this questioning something that we do gets cumbersome and irritating.

Honestly, I could care less what you did in the past or how old you are. It has been noted here in the past with past posters that both of these factors mean nothing when it comes to a forum. No offense, but I treat everyone who posts here more or less the same.

If you or anyone else happen to have a problem with the way things are done around here, so be it...but know that it wont change because we are effective at what we do. Just use common sense when posting and you should be fine.

first off, the mods lock threads when we need to, not because we enjoy it and most certainly not because we don't like what the thread says. my general rule  is that if it is constructive, keep it (part of the reason this thread is still here)  now, i know that some times we have to lock threads that were going just fine, but usually those are threads that have gone so far off course it is better to sink them than to have them smolder and continue  to piss off posters.  in the long run it really is a judgment call though there is no hard and fast rule as to to lock and what not to, if there was it'd be much easier.

as for the obvious question of who or what gives me and the other moderators the right to decide what stays and what goes, the answer for that is simple, Mauti does.  I'm a moderator because he trusts my judgment and believes that i am capable of making decisions  for the good of the forum. the same goes for ace, sin, infection, and loud

as to the comment of having our actions questioned.  i don't care if you think i did something wrong, just don't post a thread bitching about it by making another thread. if you don't like my actions pm me. you don't like the response. pm mauti for all i care

now, for the comment on your background and such.   it doesn't matter to me if you are a frigging new york times best selling author. until you prove to me that you are capable of posting in an intelligent manner, I'm just going to assume that you are a casual poster and treat your responses an opinions as such.  translation: if you want me to respect you, earn it with your words, not your back story.

as a final note.  if you think we are strict on moderation here, i can point to several forums where you are not allowed to swear at all, and many of the thing we let go (such as rebels flash animation) will get you BANNED!

If anything, I'd say the the moderators here don't lock and delete enough stuff. The same holds true for forum bans.

Most of you probably won't remember this, but it's a good example: I dunno how long ago now, I'd guess a little over a year ago, Mauti upgraded the forums. One of the nice features that this added was the polls feature. On the first day that the polls feature was in existance, about 10 threads were started, all saying the same thing:

Who is the best player in a given clan? ( KoS, AK, FBI, etc. )

Is this really what you want? Useless threads, useless polls?

You put the moderators in an unwinnable situaion: For one, very rarely does someone say "man, our moderators are doing a great job," the only thing that gets remembered, or considered, is things that people disagree with. For each person who thinks the moderators lock to much, there is a person like myself who thinks they don't lock enough. You can make anyone look bad if you ignore the good things that they've done and only focus on what you disagree with.

GhostSniper, in the very limited time you've been posting in these forums, I've seen you point out your age, education, or careers enough times to have made 3,000 posts and been here for 3 years.

It's very rare that there's a situation where I care about someone's education, age or career. I care about what they've got to say, and how well they can say it. ( One of these "rare situations" would be Biohazard's medical knowledge ).

I wouldn't keep you from saying it because I believe in FREE SPEECH).

I'm sure someone with your massive education must understand that there are given situations where some things are socially unacceptable.

I can't "exercise my right to freedom of speech" in Band class by comparing the length of my hair to the length of my dick, nor by telling a PE sub that her head might almost look human if she were to pull it out of her acne farm of an ass. ( Yeah, I found both of these things out the hard way, so I should know ).

This is a very moderate forum considering it's size. Like Brain, I could point out half a dozen very popular forums where you can't get away with 1/10th of the stuff you can here.

I believe in free speech completely, yet I also firmly believe that in your house, you get to make the rules. This is Mauti's house, and one of his rules is that myself and a few others are moderators who can lock threads among other things. Now, read that again. Notice how I said "lock threads" not "remove the right to free speech." On here you can say whatever you want, whenever you want. And guess what? You won't get in any trouble with the law for what you say. That's freedom of speech my friend. You love to wave the words "free speech" around, yet I'm not sure if you know the true meaning of it.

PS - What tasty said is right. We are not in awe of your job or any of that crap. The more you yell it out loudly, the more immature you sound. Try walking the walk instead of just talking the talk.

Like Typhy said, I think that the mods should lock and delete more garbage than they do. They do a fantastic job weeding out the crap that gets posted on here, but because of certain whiny individuals, they get their ass chewed out everytime. Just let them do their job. Posting threads like this just stirs shit up and causes trouble. So, maybe November 1st can be..Moderator Day! Lame, but yanno...they need a holiday, or at least some hookers or something. I'll work out the details, you bring the citrus.

when will you morons realize that the way these forums are moderated is not going to change around here, especially not if you try to lodge complaints without decent backing of your arguments. the moderators don't just randomly lock threads and delete posts, there's always a reason. here's a way to look at it: when you post here, the moderators own that post now; they can do whatever the hell they want with it, without your consent, as long as they find reason to do so. so shut the fuck up.
