I apologize if this is explained somewhere that I am not finding, but I am unsure who the combat point system works.

Specifically, the rules state how the penalty works when the clan is more than 5 ranks below you (you give up 20% of your combat points), but what happens when you lose to a clan that is within 3 ranks above you, and 4 ranks below you?  How much of your combat points do you give up?

Also, I am a bit confused about the per-player points.  What does "Rank Points * 0.3 increase by 0.05/additional player" mean?

Again, I apologize if this is spelled out somewhere else, or if I am the only one too slow to understand it.

No problem Pyroman. The reason why it isn't explained very detailed is that most people try to play by math but all in all the system should be seen as if you play higher or equal ranked clans you don't have to lose much and if you play more you have better chances to get into the finals.

Between 3 clans in front of you and 4 clans below you you get also less penalty points than usual: that means you are starting with 4%penalty which increasing by 2% per rank. So if you lose against a clan that is 2 ranks above you you get a 6% penalty. If you lose vs a clan 5ranks below you get 20%penalty, which is the highest penalty you can get.

About your player question: every rank has points you can earn and if you play with many players you get another percentage of these points, e.g.:

You win against #1 in GhR in a 5vs5: You get 300rank points + 300 * 0.3 player points = 390Combat Points. The 0.3multiplier gets higher with the amount of players. In a 6vs6 the 300 would be multiplied with 0.35 and so on.

E.g.: you win against #2 in a 7vs7 you get 250rank points + 250 * 0.4 = 350

am i correct in understanding that the points as clan loses for a defeat are based on their total team points (ie the points listed next to the clan name in the standings), and NOT on the purse points?

Yep you lose a percentage of your Combat Points(the points shown in the list).

One question i have is how is the rank of the clans that have no wins, yet have played games determined.  3ID is 0-5 and is ranked above .::|N| who is at 0-2.  Seems a little odd.

Splinter, I think it's done by total games won.
