Thinking of a new project, is it possible to have two types of standard snipers showing up on the same list?
I'd like to have a ghilie suit option and a boonie hat option on the same list.

This is one of the snags I ran into while developing NED. You can have as many types of models as you want to in the roster, but here's the limitations:

Anything named with the default names (ie: ica_us_demolitions.chr, etc) will automatically switch from desert to jungle to standard depending on the map. If you change the chr model name, that model will show up, but it will show up for all 3 map types. You have to go into the roster and manually edit the actor files to show the other character. If you change 50% of the roster to the non-default model, you'll have roughly a 50/50 chance of getting a mix of both in the roster in-game, but you could easily get 2 of one type also. It doesn't help that there's only 2 shown for snipers.

That's about it. I did this quite a lot with NED, but the non-default charcters I used are usually wearing something neutral, like black, green, etc, instead of a camo pattern. Just my way of doing it Wink

Here's  a question: Is it possible to set up a character ATR like the Multiplayer ATR files are set up? In the multiplayer ATR, different models and faces can be defined for different maps. Would that be possible for a single player character like a sniper? Wow, that could add alot of characters if it could work.

In a nutshell, no. The jungle, desert tags in the actor file only work for MP chr's. RSE was lazy when addding the code for the expansion packs. Skins only work in SP the way Coco explained how to set them up.

Well I figured out how to get different sniper models to change camo for the three map types. Plus have random head-gear! Which is good since because of the way the chr is set up it has the same face.

You can specify different faces for each environment in all the files, regardless of MP, SP, standard/specialist, etc. There are 3 texture types for the face texture in the actor files, but the thing you should look out for is the desert and standard faces have the helmet straps on them, the jungle ones don't.

For these models, Snowfella defined the face texture in the model. So it doesn't matter what's specified in the ATR file, it will go to the file specified by the CHR.

You could always open it up with Mike Schell's skinner tool and change it to "Head.rsb". That's what all the orignial chr's use.

Re-did the faces. Found that the basic sniper faces worked best as they have no straps etc.

Thanks SC. Hopefully it will be soon. I hope you guys will like the rest of the skins too.

I really wish someone could figure out how to add environment tags, so you could have urban and winter maps in addition to wood, jungle and desert. I'm not sure I like the compromise of having urban and woodland unis together. I didn't even bother with black uniforms becuase they just don't go in the woods.

I'll have to try these unis on the SOAF maps. I bet they'd look cool.

Snowfella made it easy with an excellent model

Some of these are dark, but that's the lighting they'd be in in-game.
