Has anyone figured out how to assign different reloading sounds to different weapons? I'd like to do this, but as far as I recall, I haven't noticed it in any mods. Is it possible?

Loth  open the effects.xml in your origmiss/sound folder. All reload sounds are marked with _rl. If you have a new weapon that uses w_newweapon_ss.wav just add w_newweapon_rl.wav in the effects.xml and the game should use it but no promises! Also the .gun file(equip folder) should have the same name: w_newweapon.gun so the game recognize it correct.

Already done that, Mauti. As far as I can tell, there seems to be no way to change reloading sounds. Ghost Recon just uses three standard ones (one for pistols, one for assault rifles, one for sniper rifles). Having an xyz_rl.wav does not do anything. The sound is just ignored. This is very annoying, and does nothing to help my view of Red Storm's programmers as a bunch of poseurs. Heh. So anyway, if anybody HAS figured out a way to work around this, I'd love to hear about it. If it's been proven that it's impossible, I'd like to know that, too.

We sure did. You can use any sound you want for reload, etc, but it's got to be correctly listed in the .gun file, the effects.xml file, and you have to follow the process layed out in cobra's tutorial to get the sound working properly if it's a new sound you are adding. If you want to take the short route, use the tango weapons' reload sounds for some vareity, they are already in there.

I downloaded the IDF v1.3 mod specifically to investigate how you managed to use new reload sounds. I see the xyz_rl.wav files, I see the entries in the effects.xml file, but there are no new reload sounds in the game. In the origmiss data files, there are reload sounds, and entries in the effects.xml file, but again, the reload sounds don't play in the game. Obviously, just having the file and an entry doesn't do jack. There must be some way to tie the gun and the sound together, but I'm not seeing what it is.

Is there something I'm missing? Is everybody hearing these reload sounds but me? This is annoying as hell.  Huh

We did not necessarily use the standard naming conventions when we did them, so looking for the _rl on the end may not be the ticket. But they are in there because I know of certain weps that use them, and I personally made gun files with them.

What did you put in the .gun files to make that happen? Gimme a hint? Please?  Wink

You can literally put anything in there, take a look after all the ballistic settings and you'll see the sound filenames. Change those to the ones you have, and it should work if you ran the sounds through the process in Cobra's tutorial.

Ah, I see, you're misunderstanding what I'm asking. I'm asking if it's possible to change the sounds that are played when you press the "reload" key. Changing the firing sounds is easy, but I have not seen a way to change the reload sounds.

I just opened every .gun file from the IDF mod and looked through them for any unusual sound entries, and also searched them for "rl.wav". Both searches turned up nothing. In the effects.xml file, there are five entries for "rl.wav". I have used those guns in the game, and the reload sounds in the game are not the weaponname_rl.wav sounds for that weapon.

Since it appears that there are either no new reload sounds being used in the IDF mod, or that you are using some type of voodoo that I can't decipher, would you be kind enough to spell out precisely how you changed the reload sounds for individual weapons?

Yeah, that's what I'd heard elsewhere, but Coco gave me hope that it was not so. Heh. Well, thanks for the help.

Dag, that's what I get for fielding Cobra's questions! I did some chaecking and found that you can choose from the sounds available by specifying the gun type, different types have different sounds. Also, you could re-name the reload sounds the same as the stndard ones to change them, if you wanted.

Yeah, it's a simple matter to change ALL the reload sounds, but it's impossible to change individual reload sounds. Stupid. Well, thanks again, guys. : )
