If all of you here could answer these questions it would be really helpful.  This survey is for a sociology project I'm working on for school assessing the willingness or potential donation from the teen/young adult group approximately of college age (15-25ish).  Please answer truthfully, not in how it looks best...I'm not judging anyone on the answers.  And although I'll know who posted them, they'll be treated as anonymous.

Charitable Donation Survey

Have you ever donated money to an organization or cause?
If yes, what type and why?
If no, why not?

What type of organization would you most likely donate to?
Environmental
Animal Rights/Habitat
Services For Needy
Political
Other (please specify)

On a scale of 1 to 10, how would you rank your personal willingness (or desire) to give up something like a movie, dinner or recreational expense to make a donation?

If an organization needed donations, identify any of the following "ways of asking" that would result in you making a donation?
      1.  asked by a friend
      2.  received a request in the mail
      3.  saw a table where you could stop and make a donation
      4.  received a request by e-mail
      5.  noticed an article in a newsletter

Yes. It was one of those Save The Rainforest things I think, and I did it because the girl holding the can of money was good-looking. =D

Organization I'd most likely donate to:
Any of those habitat protection ones.

On a scale of 1-10..1 being the lowest...Maybe a 3.

Things that would result in my donations:
Asked by a friend, saw a table, and #6: good-looking girl asking for donations.

I donated money to some Rainforest habitat thing and to the Cancer fund. Did it to feel good about helping out, or something like that.

What type of organization would you most likely donate to?
Other (please specify)
Medical stuff like cancer funds, environmental protection perhaps, poor people in Africa.

On a scale of 1 to 10, how would you rank your personal willingness (or desire) to give up something like a movie, dinner or recreational expense to make a donation?
Why not do both... but maybe 4 if I had to choose.

Have you ever donated money to an organization or cause? No, due to lack of money, however, my family has.

What type of organization would you most likely donate to? Environmental.

On a scale of 1 to 10, how would you rank your personal willingness (or desire) to give up something like a movie, dinner or recreational expense to make a donation? Like Kami, why not do both? Probably a 5.

If an organization needed donations, identify any of the following "ways of asking" that would result in you making a donation? Asked by a friend.

yes
If yes, what type and why?
poverty assistance and environmental, because I had money and they looked like they needed my money more than I did

I'd donate to all of em if I had a real job

btw for all you people that said you couldn't afford it: bullshit. I bet at least 50% of the people here are upper class/wealthy/landed aristocracy, and your standards for "affording" things are way too high.

Typhy and Kami, about the doing both, the question assumes you are having to deal with oppertunity cost.  You either pay to go to the movies, or pay money towards a charity.  While you may have money to do both, it isn't really the aim of the question.  It is whether you'd be willing to forgoe a personal benefit for a donation.

Tasty, while I'm sure technically they could, don't bias the future results by making them feel bad Wink, if they don't think they have money to donate, then odds are they won't, which is something I need to know.

Anyway, keep the results coming in, thanks for the help.

Just an update, I've recorded the results and am happy with the turnout here (tied my other two forums combined).  I'll update you next week when I've finished compiling the 100 responses or so our group is shooting for with some statistical information.  I figure that is what researchers are supposed to do Smiley.

If you didn't respond but would like to, please PM or post them the answers and I can add them in until Monday night.
