I just got my hands on a copy of Virtual PC 4. Im not sure if i want to instal it, for fear it will be a major waste of time.  This is where the *Damn community comes in...If anyone has Virtual PC and knows anything about it, post and tell me if its really worth it.

Thanks

Unless you have a specific Windows only app you need to run, don't install it. If you do, get installing.

My dad has a copy and I installed it on my computer once, and only if you need to use a small PC program that is like text or somthing, dont install it. It is a totall waste of time because it goes VeRy slow.. even on a VeRy fast computer. Once I played some stupid pokemon CD that i got for free out of some magazine or somthin (I can't Remember), I really wanted to play it and it wasnt for Mac, just PC, so I played it, it had a pokemon card feature where you can play the Pokemon Trading Card Game with a computer player, and it ran horribly... So, only unless you REALLY need to run software that only runs on PC, not mac, then I guess you could install it, but if your not, then dont..

VPC blows.  It runs games twice as slow, and twice as ugly.

VPC isn't for games, it doesn't support your 3D card, it's for when you really need to use some lame office related apps. If you want to be able to play REAL PC games on a mac, wait for this: RealPC. Yeah the link is to a French homepage but the article is in English, if you don't like France, don't bother, but if you don't mind and you're really keen on playing PC games on your mac, take a look.

There is one great use for VPC: Downloading SoulSeek, the best fuckin mp3 getting machine there is (doesn't exist for macs). You can just drag the mp3s you download onto your mac desktop using the drag and drop functionality built into VPC. w00t.

Hey Jackal, I agree with most of what these guys have said for VPC, but.....  I had used VPC 3 back in the day b/c I needed to run a program for one of my university courses that was only for PC.  And so the app came in handy.  Its true that the comp will run slow but with more recent versions of VPC that has not been more under control and if you have a faster mac it DOES help b/c I tried it.
So the real question is this, what do u need it for.  I dont know how much space it takes up to have on yer comp, if its small then install it, if its not and you dont really need it for anything in particular than just burn it to a CD and keep it for later, just in case... Grin

If you want to convert mods yourself VPC is required furthers most 2D adventure games run great on VPC. E.g Baphomets Fluch 1 & 2 are great adventure games that run without a problem on my VPC 4.

Yes it is slow(runs like a PC with the 1/4 - 1/2 speed of your Mac) but it can be very handy if you don't want to buy a PC and need to run some PC only apps from time to time.
