Ok I just got a nice new 60GB Seagate 7200rpm drive.

My Mac has a 9GB SCSI drive mounted at the bottom. Now my Mac is unique in that it is a rev2 mobo (checked the IDE chip) but it does not have a dual drive bracket for mounting another HD. I think this has to do with the fact that it says Macintosh Server G3 on the back.

So what do I need to install this drive in the easiest way possible?

If you need more information to help don't hesitate to ask. Thanks for the help.

Colin
Check out http://www.xlr8yourmac.com for some instruction on mounting additional hard drives in your Blue & White. If you bought a retail box hard drive, it should be as easy as screwing it into the 3rd position (toward the back of the machine) of the base plate.

Ya you would think that anyway.

Well I got it sorted out but I have another problem.

It won't show up in OS X. It works fine in OS 9.

Any ideas?

Then why did you post, Snipey? If you have no idea, then stay out.

If everyone acted like you ( god forbid it ), topics like this, asking questions, would get about 691 replies saying "I have nooooooo idea..."

If you have "no idea", then don't respond. Clear?

Colin, can the OS X Disk Utility see the drive? If yes, then you should be able to reformat it and install new drivers on it, and everything should be hunky-dory. If no, you may be S.O.L. When I got my G4, I moved one of my hard drives from my old computer into this one. No matter what I did, I could not get the G4 to see it. I even tried formatting it on the old computer and reinstalling the drive into the G4, but no dice. I never found a reason why it didn't work, either.

did you check the jumper settings on the new HD? if you have 2 devices connected to your ide port, one should be master, the other slave. if the jumpers are correct, try disconnecting the second device and try to run the HD alone (as master)...

ya i guess i will try just using the HD as master.

loth I am shocked to hear that and i hope it is not the case. i will try to format it in my dad's G4 and install it in the G3.

and no Disk Utility didn't see the drive. But Drive Setup (OS9) worked fine.

Strange.

Typhy,
I can't belive you take the time out to chide someone for posting OT and then don't provide any On topic insight. lol. just ironic
