I have several campaigns going on with the IDT Mod on my Mac. I am unclear as to how the unlocked heroes/specialists works. I have some dude in an all white outfit and an Alpinist in a Ghost Recon Campaign. I am wondering if this is normal or if I messed up some file mesing around with different mods.

If anyone can help me understand unlocked_heroes better I would appreciate it. I am not sure how to use these files to correct hero/specialist problems or just enable specialist so that mods work better. I see unlocked_heroes.xml, unlocked_heroes.+xml and d_unlocked_heores. I am not sure what these do and how mods use them.

I take it you are running on a Mac? To unlock all available IDF specialists you will have to complete all standard GR missions and successfully unlock the standard specialists. Same goes for Desert Siege and Island Thunder. Once you do that, the full IDF specialist rosters will be available. The files you are referring to are the ones which indicate what specialists will be available, and they are updated as you unlock each specialist.

If you don't want to play through the game, you can take these files from someone who has already unlocked them and replace yours.

Thanks Cocobolo!

Yes, I am on a Mac.

I have not completed all of the Missions in Ghost Recon or Desert Siege without a mod yet. I do have a plain Ghost Recon Campaign (Mission 4 or 5 I think) and a plain Desert Siege Campaign (Mission2-3).

I was not sure whether heroes/specialist got unlocked for single campaigns or for the duration. I had run through the first mission with several different mods (sometimes several times with the same mod) and  did not notice any hold over of hero/specialists.

So if I understand the post above doing the base missions in the base Ghost Recon/Desert Siege/Island Thunder (when I get it) Campaigns enables the IDF special characters.

It doesn't matter if you do the missions with the mod activated or not, if it's on, you'll see the IDF characters/specialists, if it's off, you'll see the GR ones. They both look at the same file. Usually, unlocking a specialist requires completing  a bonus objective in a mission, that's the giveaway that a specialist is unlocked by that mission.

Thanks I was trying to back up and do all the missions without a mod to get specialist, which I will now discontinue. I have had problems with the game crashing between missions, with other mods and even at least once with plain Ghost Recon. IDF seems to work the best for me I think I will stick with it for a while.

Some of the Specialist/heros I got with IDF (guy all in white and an Alpinist specifically) seemed a little strange to me at first, in terms of uniforms. I thought I might not be getting the right guys but maybe they are just for variety.

Yes there is much variety in the specialist skins, wait till you see the divers. Coco did a great job, as usual.

Divers, yes I opened the unlocked heroes file in the mod and saw them listed. Sounds cool. I am trying to figure out where I will be needing divers Huh

I have an Alpinist or two and a few guys in white in either Ghost Recon or Desert Siege Campaigns. I am wondering if what these characters are wearing makes a difference in the game. For instance are the guys in white more likely to be seen by oposition in town or woods settings.

Unfortunately the AI in GR does not recognize different camoflague types, you could wear a bright orange chemical suit ala US-TAC DOE and it wouldn't make you any more visible than a full fledged ghillie suit.

Multi player on the other hand is a different story.  Embarrassed

Thanks for the reply Whisper.

I read some posts in which skin developers were talking about designing skins with Camo that is harder to see. I was not thinking about multiplayer since I have been too green & chicken to try it. I can use my guys with white suits against the AI with no fear then. I had not noticed any problems with them being hit more but I was not sure.

I am trying to figure out what specialist should look like in this mod. I am still suspicious that I have a problem. I got a Specialist from about Mission 11  whos name was   d., he only had one point in each of his skill areas. It also seems like some of my Specialist are getting bad wepon selections. A few only have maybe 6 wepons to choose from and none of them seems very good.
