Ok,so I did everything just like the IT for Mac turorial told me to do.

I installed WinPack and extracted the 2 .cab files. What I got, however, was not the expected Mp2 folder...

What I got was approx 300 folders that all start with the name "[groupN]" where N is a number

Now, some of these folders do have Mp2 somewhere in there, but I'm a little confused.

Here are just a few examples of the folders I ended up with from Data2.cab:
[Group9][Support]English String Tables
[Group34]Mp1_Model
[Group48]Mp2_Shell English
[Group57]Mp2_Sound_Russian_Voice

What went wrong?

On a hunch, I tried a few things...

First, the contents from data1 and data2 seemed to be identical, so I ditched data2 and just used data1. Also, combined they were over 1 GB and wouldn't fit on a CD.

Second, I trashed anything that didn't have the Mp2 designation in the title.

Third, I renamed the folders to what they looked like they were supposed to be.
For example:
"[Group37]Mp2" renamed to "Mp2"
"[Group43]Mp2_Equip" renamed to "Equip"
"[Group54]Mp2_Sound" renamed to "Sound"
"[Group56]Mp2_Sound_Music" renamed to "Music" within the "Sound" folder
and so on down the list
Then all these got put into the newley renamed "Mp2" folder

There were a few thing I wasn't sure of how to fix, though.
"[Group53]Mp2_Shell_Art" lookes like it is supposed to be an "Art" folder within "Shell" but there is no "...Mp2_Shell". My solution to this was to duplicate the file and put one into "[Group48]Mp2_Shell English" and make a new folder called "Shell" and put the other copy in there. Theoreticaly, where ever the game wanted to look, it would find the file there.

Can anyone tell me what the heirachy is supposed to be?

So far, everthing works as it should. Movies, sound, levels, etc...

There are a couple of odd things with IT, though.
A lot of the weapon names are coming up as "!find string". Annoying, but I see this happen in a lot of various mod packs, so I don't think this resulted from my tinkering.

The M4 SOCOM sounds loud! I thought this thing was supposed to be silenced! (It seemes to act as a silenced gun with regards to enemy behavior.)

What's the point of the MM-1? It has a slow rate of fire, and no, well, no gun part. Wouldn't you be better off with the OICW? Maybe you get a little bit more ammo with the MM-1, and a blast radius of 8 as opposed to 7, but sheesh, c'mon.

BTW, a silenced sniper rifle. Mmmmmm. But I though you really couldn't silence a supersonic bullet (it creates it's own mini-sonic boom) Don't know that I'll use it much, though. The zoom is fun, but sniper rifles tend to be more of a handicap in MP play. The ranges of possible conflict tend to be pretty short. Even on Train Depot, which has some of the longest vision and fields of fire, you're better of with something else.

Sorry, I got into a bit of a ramble.

Hi,

no every weapon has a name. May you forgot some files in the Equip folder and also check the Sound folder there must be an effects.xml -> M4 Socom isn't loud.

ABout the grenade launcher I admit this gun is bs hehe but for some single player games it can be useful.

Bye,

Fixed the string problem.

Got rid of all the various shell <language> folders. Made one called Shell. Put the english strings in it, and the Art in there. The weapon names show up correctly now.

As far as the M4 SOCOM being loud, that's how the particular .wav files sound, I checked. It just seems loud, but maybe it's just me. (Especially compared to the silenced SR 25)
I equiped one of my team members with it just to check how it sounds when someone else fires it. Much quieter.

It looks like everything works properly now.
So what do you think caused this bizarre extraction in the first place?

Honestly I don't have a clue what went wrong.

About the gun sounds: yes compared to the sniper gun it the M4SOCOM loud. I don't know but maybe it is as loud as in real!?

I had the same result when I extracted the cab files. I studied the Mp1 and Origmiss folders to get the right files in the right folders. With the Damn patch applied it works fine.

I was also surprised by the volume of the SOCOM, but some of the ambient sounds are a little harsh in my version to.??
