Any violation of the man code here:

One of my best friends dated this girl for about a year and a half and they were really serious. However they broke up suddenly and when school started they stopped talking to each other and are not on good terms. Recently I have been talking to her without his knowledge and we have a date tonight.

any opinions?

Okay, looks like Bondo just got rejected by another guy, but looking past that to answer Tasty's question, here's what I would do.

Don't mention anything to your friends about your date. Go on the date tonight. Pending the outcome, tell the guy she used to date about it. If it sucked, no problem, everyone can move on. If you guys really hit it off you should tell your friend what's going on. He may not like it but he should at least respect you for having the guts to be up front about it.

Absolutely. Alaric is dead on. I think this man code #12 is really like an unwritten rule. . .I'm not really sure why exactly, but it just seems like decency.

If you date her again, you're required to ask permission if you want to stay friends with him, and if he values your friendship he'll grant it. And just out of friendliness, avoid hanging all over her around him.
