Libertarian -5.79

Pretty close to Ghandi as well, and I'm probably closer than the rest of you because my "religious" faith is more similar what with Buddhism being close to Hinduism in many respects.

My political compass

Economic Left/Right: -7.88
Authoritarian/Libertarian: -7.74

I'm sandwiched almost as far as you can go down in that lower lefthand corner. I'm actual farther from Gandhi because I am more liberal and more libertarian than he was. When I went to the "Recommended Reading" webpage for my political sector, I found that I had already read over half the books (Schlosser, Chomsky, Nader, etc). This really is a fascinating site.

I don't know about the other books but I'm thinking about getting the Nader Reader.  I like that it seems like it will be diverse...I don't know if I want full books on different topics, that is a bit of overkill.  I do have his book Crashing the Party but I haven't gotten to it yet.

-0.62 Left (told you I was a slightly liberal moderate)
-4.31 Libertarian (which fits with my feelings about liberty, gun control, etc)

This is about as close as the tests I took in college.

One more note, I checked out the reading for all the different areas.  Anyone else notices that all the Right/Libertarians books were by Ayn Rand?  If you leftests really want to get your shorts in a knot, you should read her books.

You know there's an annual high school and college essay contest about her books. . .I haven't entered, but maybe I will some time.

Anyway, I don't know where all the Ghandis came from. . .I just noticed it was the only political figure in my area.

Also interesting, tasty mentioned all the books written by authors of his political slant. However, I have read Hitler, yet I didn't absorb his views.  Why were these authors so influential to you tasty?

I like some of Ayn Rand's ideas, but I don't think her ideas apply well to all of society. She is far too egotistic and seems to have little regard for the large sector of society that was not genetically endowed with intelligence. I also despise her stupid society and Leonard Peikoff, some of the things they do in her name are in my opinion atrocious. Also her books are far too long and from a literary standpoint I find them boring, although philosophically they are fascinating.

Loudnotes, when I read these authors for the first time their political philosophies just clicked with me? the first political books I read back in 10th grade were Jim Hightower's, which naturally progressed to Ralph Nader and then on to heavier stuff like Noam Chomsky, Howard Zinn, and Nat Hentoff. I began to attend political rallies, read political news sources, and start arguments with everyone about politics? now this stuff is just part of my lifestyle. I read this stuff for fun, and find it fascinating. It's tough to find time to read fiction!

In actually looking at the other sectors of the reading list, I have the P.J. O'Rourke book "Eat The Rich" that is listed there...my friend who would undoubtedly be Libertarian Right gave it to me for my birthday...haven't had time to read it yet but it seems like a pretty easy read.  He is a writer for Rolling Stone so it is a bit more of a pop book than most.  It is made to not be too baffling.

O'Rourke writes intelligently and humorously. I read a shortened "sample" edition of "Eat The Rich", and I quite enjoyed it. He espouses the Libertarian view that a small gov't that keeps its fingers out of the peoples' business (in all senses of the word) as much as possible is the best gov't. I happen to agree with that, so there was no intellectual challenge for me in reading the book, but I laughed my ass off at his style a few times. Funny guy.

What I find interesting is that only Assassin falls on the Authoritarian side of the scale, although Mellow was getting there. There's only been 11 data points given so far, so it's not exactly a statistically useful sample. Regardless, it's interesting.

In the same political-views vein, here's a site that Cookie linked me to. It's called Nation States, and it gives you the opportunity to run a country and see what form of government your views bring about.

Edit: Right after I clicked "post," I realized that I should have included the link to my country.

I'm irked by my current country. I had another that was deleted during a script upgrade (I'm assuming, since some new features showed up at the same time as it was deleted), and I had had good luck in the issues that had come before me (they're randomly chosen, you see), resulting in a very nicely Libertarian country with extremely high ratings in the three categories. With Libertarianville, my normal luck has been in play, and I've only gotten about seven different issues that just keep repeating. Bah.
