Hey Mauti,

I just read your article about the Austrian Army and the AUG.  You compared it to a few other weapons, but I was wondering how you thought it compared to the FN P90?  It's another, non-traditional weapon, also being grabbed up by law enforcement.  Did you get to use it?  Any thoughts?

Sorry never get my hands on it. We only had comparison with Kalashnikovs, M16s, FAMAS and some others used by Armies as regular standard weapons. I guess the FN90 is also a hightech weap but if I look at gun websites it is more a close range SMG contrary to the Steyr  AUG that has a much longer combat range(is also classified as Assault Gun not SMG) May the 9mm Steyr AUG version could be comparable but I neither used nor saw this gun in real.

Bye,

Mauti

is the p90 the one that hold 50 rounds?

not a long gun at all, short gun, that is held more toward the front of the gun, magazine being by your elbow? Kinda wierd looking weapon, short barrel.

anyone seeing my image here?

Dest, you are thinking of the right gun.  The barrel isn't that short though, you just can't see anything but the end.

Here's a decent shot of them:

There are some good pictures of it here:

those guns plow. I've seen one shot in real life.

the recoil is mad fast. Hence the 50 rounds.

Short range gun tho.

I'd say the P90 is strictly used as an SMG and the steyr only as an assault gun so I don't think you can really compare them like that.

I've seen pictures of P90s with scope assemblies. I think that they are primarily intended to be a CQB weapon, but they can be prodded into being more flexible.

I think Kami is right on his assumption about the weapons.  I believe as well that the AUG is more of the assult rifle whereas the FN-90 is used as a type of submachine gun.  The Assult rifle AUG is used as an all purpose weapon that can be modded to fire almost any type of round.  Whereas the FN-90 is mainly used for assult teams like anti-terrorist groups or like the DEA when assulting with accuracy is a much needed thing.  The FN-90 can't really be used for anything else.  In the hostage takeover in Peru with the Japanese delegates it worked well close quarters but in an open field or a wooded area I dont see how it could be of use.  Whereas the AUG is a multipurpose assult rifle capable of being proficient in both areas of assult and open combat as well as defense.  And again the 5.7mm ammo it uses is only sued in that particular weapon unlike the AUG which again can be modded for many many types of ammo.  The AUG in the end is a much better weapon of choice but the FN-90 does look kewl heh.
