How long until a Mac company announces something?!??!!?

We have UT 2003 on the way. Now all we need is RvS!!!

Pat -
A game is said to have "gone gold" when development is completely finished (Raven Shield was in Beta before this), and ready for production.  A "gold master" disc contains the final game from which duplications are made.

In other words, the last step before you can actually go out and buy it   Smiley

Nope Cobra, you got it wrong.

Gold in this case is a certain amount of copies that have been sold (in this case pre-sold). I am not sure ont he exact number, but this is what that means.

As for it going gold, it doesn't mean shit in relation to it getting ported to a Mac. Ghost Recon went "Gold," but you still had to wait 2 years for it to hit the Mac, so expect the same with Raven Shield.

Uhhh...gold means the final copy was sent off to be duplicated. It has nothing to do with number pre-sold.

If you haven't noticed RvS isn't like RS or GhR. It is likely to be ported earlier because of its similarities to UT2003.

UT2003 came out in November on PC and they had playable Mac versions at Macworld in January. This is a good sign for RvS fans as Rvs is based on the Unreal Warfare engine.

Assassin -

No, it doesn't have anything to do with when it's coming to the Mac.  Hopefully won't take as long as Ghost Recon, but I'm not holding my breath...

Anyway, are you sure my description of what it means to "go gold" is incorrect?

Quote
From Ubi Soft's site:
Ubi Soft Entertainment, one of the world's largest video game publishers, announced today that the third installment of it's best-selling Tom Clancy's Rainbow Six Series, Tom Clancy's Rainbow Six 3: Raven Shield has reached gold master status.

Sounds to me like the common meaning of the term, as in it's ready for duplication...do you mean they held off on production until they got a certain number of pre-orders?

Generally a game takes about 1 year to be ported to mac if everything goes smoothly.  Hopefully it will be sooner!!

Ignore the Ass behind the curtain. He doesn't know whereof he speaks. Cobra and Colin are correct--"going gold" means that the version of the game which will be released (that is, version 1.0) has been finalized and a gold master disc has been burnt. That disc is sent off to a duplicator to have a few hundred thousand copies made, and those are packed into boxes and put on the shelves of CompUSA.

We are actually both right.

It has gone "gold" in sales, and it has gone "gold" in printing...so no one is wrong  Grin

As for it getting ported to Mac, don't worry about it for another year or so, then you can start writing your emails to Ubi et al

Good catch on that loth, I must've glossed over that part of assassin's post 3-4 times before you pointed that out. Otherwise I would have corrected him myself.

Anyways, I'm going to predict that RVS will be out for mac by summer. Not because I have insider info, just because I want it soooooo bad. Grin

For those who want to know more:

RvS for PC will come out on March 18. Look it up on www.Raven-shield.com

I will buy it  Grin

And I also hope that It will come out soon for Mac. Maybe in Octover 2003 or Febraury 2004 ? It always take a little.

Or you have to wait untill the first Expantion Pack is out - As for all RS games - Mac Games( R6 )  always came out with expantion pack not alone - and the they will port it to Mac  Sad

The only thing I want to see is it come out on the MAC.  To be honest I couldnt give two fucks about it going gold now for the PC. Pc users get way too much credit when we even mention their name, so why bitch about what gold means when the only thing that should matter is when the hell this game is coming out of the MAC.  Fuck PC!

Hmm.  Doesn't it seem like the sooner it comes out for the PC, the sooner it could be coming to the Mac?

Pat asked what the term meant, hence the comments regarding "going gold".

The marines are so good they took a jeep into some Iraq village trying to get ambushed, they refueled 6 times and did everything they could to get ambushed. and didn't!
Then the same people take in a army jeep and try not to get ambushed and they do. but the marines kill them all and go home.

To cobra's reply all I can say is that yes, I hate PC's, and yes I am pro MAC, so for me to say I dont give two fucks about PC's or when games come out then I can stand behind my words in saying that I hate PC's.  I am just sick to death about talking about PC games when all I am personally concerned with is MAC only.  So if you want to chop my statement and comment on every line to make ureself feel better, whatever floats you're boat.

Er...Saberian, all I said was that the only reason that we were talking about it being released for PC was that the Mac version is all that much closer.  Chill please.  I don't understand how you think I might be trying to make myself "feel better" by thinking this.  I hate Windows with a passion, and love my Mac...are you OK now?
