(For the uninitiated, MOO stands for Master of Orion, a longstanding and excellent turn-based strategy game a la Civilization.)

I was just wondering if anybody else is all squishily excited about this game? The PC version is set to be released on February 25, and the Mac version is at gold candidate status so it should be out within a month (but hopefully sooner).

My first gaming love is big, gigantic, complex strategic turn-based games. The whole FPS thing is just a sideline for me.  Grin  From what I've read, MOO III is going to be the biggest, most gigantic, most complex, most strategic turn-based game ever. Two of the reviews that I've read have said that it took the reviewers at least a week of solid play just for them to start to get a grip on the game. In my book, that's bad ass. Hell, I'm so excited about it that I'm starting this thread just so I can squeal like a little girl over it.

http://apolyton.net/moo3/ That links to probably the best source of info about the game.
http://moo3.quicksilver.com/ And that's the official page.

Don't worry loth all be with you as soon as I can get my copy. I've been a fan of the moo series, moo2 was probebly one of my first games.
Just something about galactic domination and crushing any foolish enough to give me resistance with my tyrant navy calls to me.
Lets hope more join us, and people can look past it being "turn based" and see what a great game it is.

It will probably be sweet, I hate realtime strategy games. Turn-based is far more strategic and therefore ownerific. Perhaps it will be good enough to distract me from playing FPSs all the time.

Only 50?  That game was like a drug.  Once I started, I wouldn't sleep until it I took over or destroyed every single planet.  I refused to even vote for myself, I wanted to crush the aliens. Grin

Have you been reading the reviews linked to by the Apolyton site? The first three were overwhelmingly positive, the fourth was highly negative but written by somebody who hated strategy games (so I don't credit his opinion), and the fifth named numerous flaws. Hopefully Quicksilver is paying attention to the reviews and are already working on a patch to fix the interface issues that everyone, even the people who loved the game) complained about. The AI issues that the negative articles mention are more serious, but I hope that Quicksilver will jump on it and get them fixed.

MOOIII looks adn sounds good but I am just hopinjg that the game will bring me as much excitement as the last installment did.  I remember when all the PC addicts were pissed that they couldnt get the game.  I used to say that MOOII was for mac only heh and they used to get pissed about it.  Well, of course they had it for the PC forever as well, it's just no one could find it.  Anyway MOOIII is now coming out but for the PC first.  I wonder about that since it was way more popular on the MAC then it was ever on the PC.  Plus it took them a hell of a long time to come out with this game, pushing the release date back at least 2 years.  I am just hoping that even with all the new intense graphics weather or not the game will still have the same flare as the older MOOII had on me.  anyway one can hope.

I'd say that OSX compatibility is a given, would be incredibly stupid to make a popular game only for pre-OSX now.

Yeah pre-OSX only would suck, but I do hope that whenever they come out with it for the MAC OS that it is both compatible.  That would be kewl.  I know someone stated it above, I just would like to see it for both so not just OSX players can benefitt from playing the game Cheesy
