Ahh, ip joining in rs..... I'm sure many of you have heard and may believe in the rumor that "ip joining/manual joining" in rogue spear causes the host to lag and/or the player that ip joined. This is not true. First let me go over this in a little bit of techincal detail. Each computer on the internet has an IP address, this is the unique number(66.23.43.185) that identifies your comp. Some computers may have 192.168.x.x, or private ip address, signifying that they aer behind a rotuer or some type of home/office network. When a rogue spear game is hosted, your computer opens up a port, sort of like a door, to the house(ip address). For rogue spear the port is 2346. When you go into the game and ip join, your just "manually" telling rogue spear what ip and port to join, rather then with the aid of gr, or whatever multiplayer service your using. All that gameranger does, is say, okay rogue spear join this IP and this port, thus doing it automatically. What in most cases causes lag, is a bad connection from the client to the host.An exmaple would be a west coast client on a east coast server. This does not always cause lag, but sometimes it does. Or, if the client jumps throgh a bad router, when trying to reach your computer, that will cause lag. There are many other things, that I dont need to discuss, that cause lag.
The main point here is that if you join through gameranger or IP join, you are in essence donig the same thing, and that is tell rs to join a designated ip and port.
I hope you guys understand this and for some of you dont bitch If I, or other ip joiners, join your game and own you, then you kick us and say, IP'ers lag. A valid reason to boot an IP'er, and probably the only one, is if you have a full game, and your connection cannot handle 11, you can simply ask the player to leave, and wait for someone else to leave, or if tyou have to, kick them.

If i have made any mistakes, feel free to post and correct me.

Where is the knowledge we lost with information?

« Reply #4 on: January 27, 2003, 02:26:58 am »

It wasn't the lack of knowledge that got us mad, it was the not wanting to cb us and lying about it.

Yeah this was just Vel not wanting to cb us.  I don't think this is fair being in first that now nobody wants to cb any of our members.  Guys this isn't to start a fight but just to say the clans that refused for no good reason.  TF6 says then only cb with Pat and Yoshida on.  TF6 had Pat, Yoshida and Kilzo the leader on and refused to cb us then go and cb Freak with amy.  This also goes to GwG, stfu, freak with the new ip joining excuse and m4 just today....This also goes to AK with Rapid saying he's too tired, now I'm sure they will cb us in two weeks like Typhy said but still guys it's not Fair that AK gets to cb and we can't.  This is also to Daf and Nerd who refused today.  That is to everyone of those clans, I'm not trying to start anything but come on it's not fair not to play us, we are getting bored.  None of you had a problem playing us last season so stop with the excuses.  I mean somebody has to win the bl, why is it when someone gets into first place you stop playing them?  Somebody has to win it, when another clan gets into first are you going to stop playing them?  Enough with the bs, play us, don't just play clans you think you can beat, because we are definatley a beatable clan.  We aren't KoS yet Wink

Welcome to the world of having IP joiners in your clan, Infection. I had to put up with crap like that for 7 months.

Onto the issue of AK not CBing you, I told you that I will be happy to CB against your GameRanger members, and in 2 weeks, I will be happy to CB against Ejo and Xoclipse. I also made it clear that I won't play against hitman because he has no place in this community. Let's not make an issue about it, ok?

Hey no issue at all, I even said in my post I'm sure you'll play the members.  But what si this about Hitman having no place in the community?  Fire has always been a cross platform clan, even if you want to look at our old website.  Hazard had a pc and was playing for us  a little over a season ago and now you think he's hot so don't say hitman has no right to this community, he has just as much as Sin or Haz, he is my friend and a cool guy.  I keep my friends in the clan and we are cross platform.  Now if you don't want to play him because he croutches that's okay but he doesn't cheat, he didn't know about your lag from Alaska and he's a cool guy, so don't be mean Wink.

iBeer, did you try and make your post look as dumb as possible? If so, you did a great job of it.

The reason I don't want to play against Hitman is simple, I am a mac Rogue Spear, in a mac Rogue Spear clan. I don't support clans bringing in PC players to play for them.

An exception to my not CBing against PC players for this battle league is Xoclipse, because he does have a place in this community, seeing as he had a mac. The same would be true with Assassin.

IGnome no need for ignorant bashing sir.

I understand what Typhy is saying.  But Hitman is cool, whether you want to cb him or not, he's a great RS player, I'm sure you wouldn't mind playing against the worst pc player ever but no worry Wink.  And I'm sure you wouldn't mind just playing with him in a regular game hopefully Typhy since we play with you a lot.  I just want to get some cbs.  Add MA80 to that list.

I love you Grin

In defense, as ignorant as it may be, of our clan wide decision to avoid CBS with Ip joiners. We chose this position, not because of lag, but because our understanding of how IPing differs from GR joining is that with GR you conduit through GR first, which adds a miniscule delay in transmission. Direct IPing has less delay. So if there would be any advantage it would be more a slight one to the IPer, in the same way (not exactly but close) as Hosting. Hosting Does occur.
If we're wrong, we're wrong, but I've never heard Evill explain it and don't pursue it. If you could see your numeric ping from IPing as opposed to GRing, maybe it'd be clear or not if there's any advantage.
Fire you have some of the best players in GR, without a doubt. Wait around, we'll CB you again soon enough. In any case, in our last two CBs with you, we had connection problems with Ejo and XO Iping in. ShadowBox who has a fat connect had a laggy host which is odd for him, so between that and a few close calls, some of us felt that IPCBs were more than bad luck.

I'm sorry Vel booted some of you from a game, but you could remember that when a player busts in all hyped up and rude, some peeps don't wanna hear about it. Like My boy Typhy when he yells out FREAKS CB US. after we've been playing game after game in fun, I come close to putting him on ignore. He knows my name as well as any other freak... so he should use it.
Shit I broke a clan rule. No BSing about other players...
damnit now I gotta pay a fcking fine .

"Hops" would probably be a better term to use then "jumps," xo networking noob. It's probably the fact that host's set their client limit at say, 10 players and then little mr IP joiner comes along to make it 11. From expereince this host might know that anything over 11 clients his computer cannot handl and will lag, thus the complaining of "IP joiner's lag" begins.

CCNA Bound, May 2003... I hope

Addition: Jack, direct IP joining doesn't have that much less of a delay then it does through GR, they're both direct connections to the host computer... GR just act's as a DNS server for your games.

Hey, I wasn't there when this happened, but please stop bitching. I am sure Vel had reason to boot, for example, his host with alot of peeps can get laggy because he is in France, so I am sure he didn't need ip'ers also.

So gameranger translates the hosts name to ip? nice vip, networking noob...

jack, the ping inside gr, compared to in the game, shouldn't really make a difference. essentially, both in game and in gr, the program is doing "ping x.x.x.x" , and for gr, if you have numerical ping on, it displays the number ping, i.e 93 . Whereas in rs, it just translates the ping into bars, 3 greens probably being good latency(40 or lower). So it does not make a differnece, and does not change the ping if your in gr , or in rs.

To make it clear: joining a game through GameRanger or IP joining does NOT make a difference for your latency (lag). Once you are connected to the host, you don't transmit anymore packets to GameRanger until you quit.

Ace is completely correct. The only difference between manual IP joining and automatic IP joining (GR, that is) is that using manual joining, it is possible to play cross-platform games of RS. To the best of my knowledge, it's not possible to cheat in Urban Ops (or at least, it's very difficult and/or not widely known), so it's no good saying that you're disallowing PC players because of cheating.

On another note, wasn't Hitman an AK a while back? Perhaps politics are the real reason behind Typhy's animosity?

No Loth, it's a different hitman, mine and Haz's friend that has a pc.  Typhy doesn't like him because he says he croutches then shoots which takes advantage of Typhy's lag.

Ahh, I see. My mistake.

Not letting a PC user play in CB's just for the silly reason that they're PC users is lame, you may be in a mac clan but not playing against PC or PC/Mac clans becuse they have PC users just means you're a frightened little shit.
