Yes, AFAIK means "as far as I know".
Loud, do all the sniper rifles have only one level of zoom for you? If you're using the M24 or the L96-whatever-it-is, both of those have only one level of zoom. The other rifles have two. If that's not the problem, then make sure you're not using the zoom out key when you want to zoom in. That'll cause it to zoom straight out to the maximum level (stepping backwards through the zooms... quite a nifty feature, methinks).
