Think Different.

« on: November 15, 2002, 04:24:36 pm »

Here at work I host with my DP 800, 1.25 RAM, OS 10.2.2. GeForce 2. The client machines are 2 733 G4, OS 9.2, 512 RAM, and GeForce 2. When playing multiplayer, the clients are getting kicked off at random. One game we may play for an hour before one of them gets kicked, or it could be 30 minutes.  It's happened to both machines in different games. It's really annoying to get deep into a mission and one of your team members vanishes! Any thoughts? Thanks!

First give GR more RAM that always helps because more than half of all crashes are "out of memory" errors. So this should help. If it still happens open the lke.log file(In your GR folder) at the Mac that crashed. It's a debug logfile. May it can help you.

Have a nice day,

But if he's hosting on a machine running X, memory shouldn't be an issue, correct?

Mudface in theory MacOSX should handle the memory however there is a reason that you still can allcolate the memory manual. Also in theory MacOSX shouldn't crash if an app crashes. Nevertheless GR has crashed my OSX twice.

Plain theory and realilty are unfortunaly two different stories.

I hope it helped Arico.

Bye,

Yeah, we played a mission at lunch and everyone stayed up. The memory allocation was the key. Thanks again!

Ghost Recon seems to have a major memory leak or two that causes the out of memory errors while in OS 9.  I'm currently collecting log files to ship to Aspyr in a bug report email.  Suppposedly a number of the crashes will be fixed with the impending patch.

I gave GR 225MB RAM(that are 20 more than suggested) and I never had an "Out of memory" error in OS9. And I played a lot the last 10 days.

The very first thing I did with GhR in OS 9 was give it 350000KB.  I get out of memory errors.  I only get them when I'm playing online.  Usually coop.  I'll be in the middle of a game and the app quits.  No app crashing w/ a dialog box warning, just a clean quit(never the first game on that particular server).  With 1.12GB of RAM there's plenty of extra free RAM for OpenGL abd any other libs that need to be loaded.
