ok im gonna try to keep this simple... and not piss anyone off.... i like the xbox better for a number of reasons. its $200, has better hardware then the other consoles, has a hard drive which opens up a number of possibilities not available to other systems, has built in ethernet, and the real kicker for me... one damn good online gaming system comming out in november. people tell me i should have just gotten a PC because it does the same thing. however, the xbox was cheaper, and PCs are the devil. besides, why spend an extra thousand dollars on a computer that i will only use for games? it will just give me the blue screen of death and tell me crap about its components not working together and whatnot.

now, some people complain about the xbox not having any good games. i would like those people to think back to the first year of the ps2. ITS GAMES BLEW. sure, the ps2 has some great games now, but that is because its in its prime. the xbox is less then a year old, and it already has some really sweet titles like halo, doa3, and quantum redshift (my personal favorites). now, before you start saying these games suck or whatever, i strongly urge you to actually play the game (not read the crappy IGN reviews or play the walmart display). i actually think quantum redshift is the best racing game ive ever played (and ive played A LOT of racing games).

now, about the other systems. the ps2 is a great console, but its starting to get old. i have many friends who own ps2s. yes, they have mgs2 and gt3 and all that jazz.. but still. .. whenever we play,  say, doa3.. they are always amazed by how short it has to load (2 seconds max). then they are like, "GODDAMN! look at those graphics!" anyone who has played doa3 knows what i mean. i know, i know, graphics and short loading times arnt what makes a game fun. however, they sure as hell dont hurt anything. now im not going to lie to you. i play my friends ps2s all the time, and really enjoy it (hell, i may be getting one after i buy another guitar). i just enjoy my xbox more.

and as far as the gamecube goes, its just a little too childish for me. i mean.. look at it! its purple! the discs are tiny so children can grasp them with their snot covered fingers easier, and the controller.... *sigh* .. the first time i saw it in a magazine i was like, "wtf is that?? a lego piece??" i know its a more powerful system then the ps2, and i know nintendo can do some great stuff. its just somewhere during the late n64 era, someone in nintendo was like "lets make games for babies now." and they did. on the otherhand, nintendo is the portable system god. i dont go anywhere without my gameboy advance, even if i dont anticipate on playing it. i link up with friends during studyhall and lunch, and it brings much joy. btw, chicks dig mario kart.

wow, damn, this post is longer then i anticipated... note to self: do homework before checking forums..

Dude, Geek, I hate to tell you, but a game system can't get old! It's impossible, really... Ok, it can get old, but only when a newer system outdates it or when the games all suck... PS2 can't get old under the PS3... Xbox cant get old until the Y Box, GameCube can't get old until the model for 10 year olds comes out... (thats right, no longer an 8 year old machine... 10!)

The only thing that can happen is the games can start to suck, and frankly, the games aren't sucking now for PS2 with so many greats still on their way... (Frankly, I still love THPS3)

I won't fight you, X-box's Halo owns me... I haven't heard of the other two though...

yes, and let's compare the market as it is NOW, not relative to the age of the system. and right now, the PS2 pwns all others.

Man, I still played my Atari, NES, and SNES up until they..broke. ugh. I'd hafta say the Atari (I can't remember the number at the end) was the best system, because it had Pacman, the best game ever made. m00t!

The 2600? 5200? 7800? Or maybe you're thinking of an Atari computer, like the 400, 800, 600XL or 1200XL.  Grin

I actually owned an Atari 400. It was a computer whose main method of input was cartridges. Yes, cartridges. But I also had a cassette drive. Ph33r the old school. I can still whoop the ass at Missile Command, too.

woot! Missile Command rocks. I think I had a 7800, but I could be wrong. Another cool game was Road Blasters (I think that was the game). You drove a red car around and it had this laser gun ontop, and you blew away other cars...good times.

Sorry, but anyone who says the Gamecube is too childish needs to get counciling for their insecurities.  The Gamecube is the best for one overarching reason...it is made purely for gaming.  It doesn't try to be an all in one box with DVD movie, internet (although it is coming), or any other nonsense...everything is designed to be the ultimate console.  The controller may not look great but it is the most comfortable (by far) and it's design is perfect for the true console genres (platforming, adventure, RPG, Racing).  Sure, it may not be best for FPS, Fighting, or Sports, but those are lousy genres for consoles (with sports being lousy in general) to begin with.

Nintendo makes the most creative games...it is just too bad most of you are too immature to see beyond the lack of blood, cursing, or large chested women to see this.  Contrary to what you might claim, the average GCN gamer isn't 8 but rather upwards of 28 (based on a servey of posters at a.g.v.n.gc).  The Gamecube by far had the best first year of game releases in the first year of a consoles release...ever.  And it already has a solid lineup well into next year announced.  The PS2 had a full year before it started to get great games (starting with GT3 in June of last year) and it still only has a handful.  The GCN already has an equivilent number of great games with Mario, Animal Crossing, Super Monkey Ball, Super Smash Bros. Melee, Pikmin, Eternal Darkness, and a number of third party titles.  This covers a great variety of genres.

Anyone who claims the GCN is kiddy invalidates their vote for not being educated in their reasoning.  I own a PS2 as well and have played about 15 games, most of them the top games on the system according to GameRankings, and I've only found two games that can truly be given the great title.  GT3, and GTA3.  Neither however is as fun as Super Monkey Ball.  The Xbox...well I take a great notice that most reviews of Xbox games focus much more on graphics than reviews of games on the other systems.  That is because it is what it has going for it.  But the games it has going for it is relatively nothing, equivilent to the PS2's first year.  So, you have two consoles which had horrible first year lineups and in the case of the PS2 had only a few great titles its second year versus a console with the best first year line-up ever and it because a rather easy choice.

P.S. I didn't even mention the GBA link and e-Card reader functions that will add much to GCN games.

I'd have to go with Geek on this one. And as bondo says most of the reviews talk about how good the graphics are and its not a lie. Most xbox games have superior graphics to any other console. As for the contoller you get used to it after about a week. Hell, I tried to play a friends game cube and I played like  shit because I wasnt at all used to the controller style. And for all of you who think that most xbox games are crappy go play Halo at one of your friend's houses if they have one or if you have any friends....   and there is supposed to be a really good game coming out soon, but because I spend more time on my computer than any console... I forget the name of it... Even though xbox's are cool, macs own them =P

bondo, that was weak. go spend hours researching the xbox like you obviously did for the ps2 and gamecube, then try to put up a real argument. and btw, its first year lineup is MUCH better then the ps2s was, and its not even the holidays yet.

and yes shade, i love my mac. its just lacking in the gaming department. and when friends come over it will be nice to be able to have 4 people play online off one machine.  Cheesy

yea when your friends come over that changes everything.... but as for single player, after a while i just gets tedious no matter what console you are using... Hell, I have definatly overplayed gta3 and its just too boring to play until my friends come over and we do different stupid things on it. and yes mac gaming is a little weak, but a lot more companies are shipping out new games to mac now... Just look at SoF2 and warcraft3, plus stuff like gr makes mac gaming worthwile

Which console is best is more a matter of opinion, but specs wise, Xbox Is the Best.
and thats one of the reasons why its my favorite. and it has great games Like Halo,Quantam Redshift, and DoA3. with a lot more in the next month or 2.and with xbox live coming out, thats another reason to get xbox and not the other consoles. Because for me, online is the best part of games, and its a lag free environment for the most part!
Ps2 and gamecube are good consoles too, i wanted a ps2 until i heard of xbox.but gamecube seemed to me directed more at a younger audience, and ps2 didnt have the graphics, or online capabilities as xbox.

Geek, I know the Xbox library quite well...Halo is the only "great" exclusive game in it...and many would agree with me not thinking it is all that great.  I believe Deadeye for one has commented on it being a very average FPS before...at least on Macclans when I said I was looking forward to it on Mac.  Still, FPS games suck on consoles.

Halo, Project Gothem Racing, Dead or Alive 3, The Elder Scrolls 3:  Morrowind (kind of like Everquest on the pc) are all awesome games on the xbox whixh gorf and i have!  Watch out for Morrowind though, it truely is addictive!  Another great game in Transworld Surf, kind of like a tony hawk on the surfboard with AMAZING WAVE GRAPHICS, but u can't play it for a couple of minutes and then put it down, u have to play it for a while and get good to see what its all about!

i totally hear you moose, i couldnt have said it better myself. online games are the shit, and it doesnt get any better then xbox live

and bondo, knowing the library doesnt cut it. how many xbox games have you actually played? 1... 2 maybe? and dont give me this bs about halo being the only good exclusive game. i just got quantum redshift a few days ago, and i think its the best racing game ive ever played. try making some friends and play their xbox's. perhaps they will show you the light. and i think first person shooters only suck on YOUR consoles, seeing how the ps2 and gamecube have noodles for analog sticks.

Ok racing games suck unless you have the weel seat and petals so stfu about quantom and project gotham.  I didnt even like Gt3A. Ok, PS2 has GTA3 and GtaVC and GTA4 coming out.  They arent coming to xbox don't say they will.  Yeah halo is a great game, and xbox has the best graphics by far.  I would go to say halo is the best multiplayer game as of yet.
Gamecube isn't a kiddy system, compared to xbox you could say it is.  But, it has great games and PIKKMAN IS HELLA FUN.  The controllers are very comfortable as long as you dont have gigantic hands.  And those are the only circumstances in which the XBOX ones are.  I do not have a problem with the PS2 controllers, i think they are very ergonomic.
As for DOA3, it's a fighting game.  OMG great graphics who cares its a fighting game.  Fighting and Racing games get boring after a while.  I wouldnt say HALO does as long as you have frequent multiplayer.  And yeah my mom owns all at RS
