Got married on 7th september and then went off on holiday. First to Bali then to SIngapore.
OK. Within 5 mins of being in Singapore's intenrational airport 5 security blokes, 1 with MP5 the other 4 with SAR 21's.
I was suprised at how toyish they look. (From the UK never seen a modern Assault rifle before.)
A few days later went to Singapore Discovery Centre. Singapore is really proud of their combined Armed Forces and in the SDC there was loads of info on them. Being a 26 year old kid Wink I went ot look at the guns of course. Had a play with a SAR 21 (was bolted down so couldnt have a real mes with one, plus no magazine - weapon was deactivated.)  The SAR 21 is like a toy gun Smiley Also noticed the internal laser sight with a pressure switch on the front grip, suppose a bit like the light switch attached to MP5s with the mounted flash light.
Next of rifle shooting with deactivated M-16 think the were the A1 types. The guns were converted into the light firing type and you shot at a screen. The front sight on mine was twisted which was why I was crap, didnt realise how small the rear sight was. I was also suprised at how little recoil there was (supposedly theyd managed to make the recoil the same as in real life.)
Also had a look at some night vision scopes mounted to various rifles and some sort of shell launcher.

They also had a computer animation of a future rifle. Looked like a boxy M-16 type with undermounted shell launcher - similar to OICW - with airburst capabilities. It had a boxy scope attached to the top replacing what would have been the handle, this seemed to be full of electronic range sensing type stuff. Didnt have a name for this rifle.

Anyway it seems that the Singapore Armed forces are using American style arms for troops with the Security forces, ie Airport security, using the SAR 21's.

Just thought Id pass this on, you probably all knew anyway Wink

Before getting on the ferry from Hull coming back from england some english police man stopped me and my parents in the car. he had an mp5 with aimpoint and flashlight!! We all know what english police men and weapons are like (for all that dont know... english policemen have no weapons.). The guy came right up to the car and the mp5 looks like a toy as well I thought... was strange...

Thanks:

The thing that still suprises me are how toyish they all look, no wonder there have been a few instaces of armed police being called out because of kids with airsoft guns.

Raven: I remember being in an airport in Birmingham there were to police 1 with an MP5 the other with just a truncheon [sp]. I was trying to imagine what would happen if someone with a gun got in.
Armed cop: "OK you hit him with your stick and I'll cover you:
Cop with Truncheon " errr, OK?" Smiley

She only lasted 3 hours before the ordering me around started Smiley
No been together for 8 and a half years, just making things official really, plus got lots of presents and a holiday, which we will now spend the next 3 years paying off Sad

One other thing where does Dell UK get off selling us decent P4 1800 machines for over ?1000. In Singapore you can get a nice Black & Silver tower 15" monitor P4 1800 for S$1250 - which is less than  ?500. included XP and other software.
In the UK they would have just gone OK ?1250.
