Well, heres a topic for all you football fans out there. Or really just anyone. To start out, here is what happened: Randy Moss, the star Wide Reciever for the Vikings was arrested tuesday afternoon. Moss was driving his Lexus, he came to a place where they were doing road maintence. He wanted to make a turn into one of the streets that was blocked, the traffic director said "No", a word that Moss never hears. In retaliation to this, he slowely attempted to push her out of the way with his car, she didn't move, he picked up a little speed and pushed her almost a block before she fell flat on her face in the street. Moss spent the night in Jail, but was released yesterday morning charged with 2 misdemeanors.

After departing Jail, his comments to reporters included: "Sorry for what?", and many more comments of this sort. The next day ( Thursday ) the Vikings sent him back to talk to reporters trying to clean up their battered immage. He aploigised to his whole team, and everyone but the traffic women who he'd hit. Police searching his car found a Marijuana joint in it. Supprise supprise: He insists that it's not his.

This is Randy Moss. The amazing talent is matched by his amazing arrogance and ego. Quotes such as: "I play when I want to play", have made Moss a hated player by many. When he's not refusing to play, he's squirting a game official with a water bottle. The proposed punishment so far is a $50,000 fine. ( Not much for someone who makes $75 million along with a $18 million signing bounus. ) Think to yourself, is this fair punishment? Or should he server jail time etc.

randy moss should be lauded on high as the almighty king of all. he is the one true figure that all religions can center around as their messiah, the true savior of humankind. his amazing talent, intellect, and good looks all set a standard that we, as mere mortals, can never hope to come close to. so of course we shouldn't give moss jail time, for that would be blasphemy to the most offensive degree. instead, we shall erect a mighty monument to his stature, a true symbol of our affection to this fabulous and deserving god of all.

I think the Vikings should cut Randy Moss he is such a cry baby spoiled brat that says "I dont try when i dont want to" and if he dont want to be tackled he doesnt even go for the ball. since when does what a man's income is come into play for justice and fines?  everybody bitches that the rich get off, so now you are saying that the rich should have to pay more??

Deadeye is right, besides a normal person wouldn't be charged 50,000 dollars anyway, they would be charged less, so it isn't even fair to him.  I really don't care what he does, do you think they would ever actually do anything to such a great sports star?

Well Deadeye, if you did this, you'd probaly be serving 90 days. And Infection, Randy is arrogant and has a huge ego, but he can't compete with me on that front.

Monetary fines and punishments for sports stars or any other person should, like taxes, be proportional to their income. They are the ones oppressing society by possessing a much greater percentage of goods and wealth than the average person, therefore creating scarcity and hunger, poverty, and death. Moss and other worthless sponges on society can be fined out onto the street as far as I'm concerned.

you have it a bit off.  it's a supply and demand country.  he makes that money because our society choses to put that worth on his occupation and talent.  

in other words, if you pay the outragous fees that the nfl charges to see a game, or watch them on tv, or worse, buy a jersey or other liscensed product, you are contributing to that demand.  

as long as people are willing to spend that kind of money to watch football, then the people around it deserve to make that kind of money.  it's like any other business.  cars are the price they are because people are willing to spend that kind of money on them.  when money gets tight (economy), they come out with less expensive cars.  

so if you don't like it, speak with your wallet.

i do speak with my wallet??think i have ever spent money on anything related to sports? most definetely not? nor do i drive a car, i had one and i wrecked it, parents offered to buy a new one and i chose not to have one because of their negative effects on the environment and society. i bicycle everywhere now and am much better off for it. the reason i post things like my previous post to this one is to hopefully knock some sense into people and show them how destructive their lifestyles are. i have no problem of supply and demand, for that exists in every place that goods are exchanged??from foraging societies to the US. so in other words, just because people derive enjoyment from blowing a weeks salary on tickets to an NFL game and a fucking randy moss jersey doesnt mean that moss deserves a multimillion dollar salary. if he earned the same salary as the people who came to watch him, maybe he would have some fucking respect for other people who work harder than him for much less.

Well, I do go to some sporting events...I went to two rockies games...one of which I paid $20 for the other I got free because my sister-in-law's uncle has season tickets and did some sort of trade in to get 20 for one game.  I also paid $70 to go to Champions on Ice, which I don't mind because skaters aren't really overpaid, they may make a few million but it is a very expensive sport (and yes it is a sport).  Otherwise all I do is watch sports on TV (not pay-per-view).

As for your car thing tasty, for some people not having a car just isn't an option.  Colorado Springs has shit for mass transit and I have to drive about 20 miles to school.  I also can't really carpool because even if there was someone close to me at the school (there are a few reasonably close) the schedules would never line up).  What I do plan to do is get a car with decent gas milage...maybe even a hybrid.  I do really like the Subaru GT or WRX but they get low 20s rather than the 30s I'd prefer (or 70s I could get with a Prius or something).

watching sports on tv is where most of the revenue comes from, btw.

tasty, you start by agreeing in supply and demand, then you trashed it.  if people are willing to pay a week's salary (for some people) to get a jersey and see a game, why in the hell shouldn't any player get that money?  who should get it?  

if you are saying that tickets and tv time are just over priced, well, that goes back to supply and demand.  by keeping the network ratings up, you drive up the advertising costs, which a large % of goes back to the teams, then to the players.

so speaking with your wallet includes not watching on tv or listening on radio.

as for the guys that spent their paycheck on a game, god bless them, for they just spoke with their wallets too.

They don't know what I watch...the nielson ratings come from a select number of houses that have the data and then they assume the trend across the public.  Seeing as my watching or not watching doesn't affect the ratings, I don't support overpaid players by doing so.  Secondly, I don't buy anything based on advertisement and pretty much don't buy anything that is advertised in general.

I mean, if my cable company was able to know what I was watching then they would go hey, he's watching ESPN even though they only pay for local channels (The cable repair person said to take the filter off to help the cable modem work and as a result we got all the normal channels).

the reason you may not have understood what i meant is because i was speaking in terms of a socialist society- the players would earn big money, but it would be taxed away from them after a certain point (around 100,000) and redistributed equally among society. therefore there is still supply and demand, but there are not exorbinant salaries or a stratified society.

While the ideals of Marx were geat, in practice they haven't worked.  They are too simple for large society.  Also, Marx himself said that the only true socialism would have to be born of democracy, which we haven't seen yet.

the biggest problem with socialism is that it's both a political and economical system, wrapped into one package.  It also hurts high end stuff.  What encentive would I have to perform a dangerous job if there weren't great rewards?  or a shitty job?  Where are the motives to do well?
