Why, then, did you vote for ghost recon? Anyway, I voted for Raven Shield, but I also anticipate the release of Halo..!!!! It looked so tight on the XBox... The only game Xbox is actually bought for!

Well, I don't really think that this is to good of a poll, Raven Shield and Ghost Recon should be together since it will be a while after Ghost Recon that Raven Shield is out.

I am looking forward to Ghost Recon the most. Many of my "cold-war" era tactics will work. There are more open fields to say. Less urban and more terrain use needed. Not to mention that they have fucking ghille suits!

You and me both, Cossack! Ahh. We'll whip out some old Soviet tactics, and..ahhh I can't wait. Open fields are a lot more fun for combat. Ahh. I can't wait. I'm drooling already.

Actually, in past years the only two reasons russia hasn't been conquered ir:

1. The stupid invaders (Napolean; Hitler) decided it might be fun to invade Russia in the WINTER!!

2. Russia has fucking too many troops, In world war 2 russia had the most casualties of any of the countries. They would just send mass "floods" of people in order to "drown" the enemy. No particular skill in tactics helped them.

Anyway, i am waiting for ghost recon, i already pre-ordered it. Just have to wait till i get another new cable modem

Partially true...if Hitler would have marched into Moscow and executed Stalin instead of following the Red Army north, God knows how history would have changed.

As for Napoleon, he stretched his supply lines beyond his capacity and therefore was not able to proceed furthur in with any effectiveness.

Oh god I have been hearing this untrue garrble gabble for too long. The steryotypical way that Russians fight is far from the truth. First of all let me tell you why Russia retreats so much. It is because we have no natural barriers. No mountains or Oceans, just plains and forests. The only barriers are the Rivers, and some of those are not hard to cross. So out main defense is to retreat as fast as possible dening to enemy to rest while partisans and village people carry out missions blowing up railroads and bridges. As the Soviet Army retreats we burn out anything that will be of use to the enemy. Far behind our lines we build "traps" and heavily fortify cities like Moscow St Petersburg and Stalingrad (now a days called Volgograd). Remeber Stalin was not in charge of troop movements! So it would have made very little difference if he would have died. However if Moscow was taken then it may be a different story. However Hitler lost to Marshall Zhukov. Not only because of winter (winter of '41 was not the coldest) but because Zhukov carried out an encirclement manouver and temporarily surronded the Germans cutting them off from supplies. The Germans managed to break out long enough to Retreat back to Smolensk. Now lets go to the battle of Stalingrad. Let me first start off by telling you that the Russians did take more casulties in this battle for one pinical reason. They had to cross the Volga under artillery fire, If the germans crossed the Volga they would have seen simmilar casualties. Again it was not by Russian human wavves that won this battle. The areas that they used that primarily in the city did not get very far. Instead it was another encirclement. This time Zhukov was succesfull and General Hoths Panzer Army failed to get the Sixth Army out of Stalingrad. The Russians then advanced into the Ukraine while the Sixth Army was deep in enemy lines with no supplies. Now we go to the Battle of Kursk. In the Battle of Kursk the numbers were roughly equal. According to German and Russian historical sources. Americans place the Russians at slightly higher numbers. Yet the numbers of guns tanks airplanes and men where roughly equal. This battle was won by guess who? Zhukov not Stalin. This time the Russians set up defensive perimiters and camoflauged trenches. Now lets see how the Germans attacked. The Germans first pounded positions with aircraft. However in this battle the Russian put up an equal threat in the sky. Germans had to fight for air supremacy in this one. The trenches were not hurt that much. The next phase was sending in tanks. The tanks rolled over the Soviet infantry men un aware that they were under them. Yet the soviet infantry man were deep in underground bunkers. When the Tanks past the infantry men set up positions and seperated the German Panzer's from the infantry. Ultimently the German infantry fell while Russian tanks and specilized crews of "tank busters" ate up the German panzers. The Germans took around 500,000 casualties. Yet the Kremlin has estimated that the Russians took around 600,000 casualties. After that the Russians pushed the Germans back to the Oder with relitivley light casualties compared to their past ordeals. In the Battle of Berlin emerged the steryotypical Russian use of "human waves." This was ultimantley because they were in a race to be first to get to Berlin. Before Eisenhower.  It is true that Russia took most of the casualties in WWII. The blame to that goes to Stalin who 6 hours after the invaison started gave the order to fight back. Already many Russian soldiers were killed. Not to mention the Command Force on the Western Front had largley been exterminated in Stalin's Purges. Zhukov came fom the Manchurian Front.

However all of this was 55 years ago. Do you think we still use the same tactics? If you think that we do then you are a very sad and ignorant human being. Lets go to Afghanistan where the Soviet Army used vertical envelopment tactics. Yes Soviet Union did lose the Afghanistan War. Yet you lost the Vietnam war. AND DONT GIVE ME THAT BS WE WITHDREW WE DIDNT LOSE! The Russian troop in Afghanistan was well trained and a totally different conscript from his WWII counterpart. Ultimently with trouble at home (just like the US in Vietnam) the Soviet Union withdrew its troops and let the Communist Government in Kabul fight for itself (just like VietNam except the government was Pro-American) In Chechnya we use the same tactics. We are winning and will continue to win despite heavy casualties. It is true the Russian Army is suffering from lack of funds. We cannot afford those pinpoint bombs. Not to mention that the Chechen Rebel arent't that Chechen. They were American supported and chock full of Afghans and Pakistanis. So before you say that Russia uses human infantry READ SOME FUCKING BOOKS OR ASK A FUCKING RUSSIAN! DO NOT BASE YOUR CONCEPT OF RUSSIAN TACTICS ON THE MOVIE "ENEMY AT THE GATES!!"THAT IS HOLLYWOOD NOT THE REAL THING. And yes Assassin Zhukov did have great talent as a commander. He was much better than Eisenhower and Patton and made Montgomery look like a two year old playing Chess! Also another fact. 80% of the German Army was stationed in Russia. The other 20% were occuppying captured countries and manning the Atlantic Wall. The US and Britain never had to face what we had to face. And by the time you landed the Germans were already retreating to Poland. SO THERE! Respond to that or contradict me. I will shoot you down!

« Reply #17 on: August 30, 2002, 02:20:22 am »

My reference to executing Stalin was off topic and not meant to be in reference to invading Moscow. If Stalin would have been executed, history would have changed significantly in terms of the Cold War, and technological advances that the world had never seen before.

Hell, I bet your name Cossack wouldn't have been used like it is today because who knows if any follow up leader would have sent out the death squads hunting them down and executing them.

About the Soviet forces facing a larger German army - I do not doubt that nor did I ever dispute that. The Germans were scared to death of the massive numbers the Red Army had and thus they allocated more troops to the East. But where you are being unfair is that Hitler only committed that many troops to the Eastern front because he thought at the time (1941-1943) that an invasion of the occupied territories was impossible with his fortifed beach fronts and his U-Boat wolfpacks controlling the Atlantic. This of course changed when American and British warships sealed them in the Mediterranean after they responded to the fighting in Africa and naval battles being fought in Italy.

Anyway, I think that the Soviet General Rokossovky was superior to Zukhov in the fact that he advanced the front 400 miles against the German Centre Corps and annihilated 3/4 of the troops the Germans had.

Also, dont go ragging on the Brits, Americans, and Canadians, because without a landing force in the West, the Russians would have been fucked over by the Germans. You tend to forget that Allied bombers blew up German factories to high hell.

If you want to debate this, I'll be glad to do it at a later time. I have taken a few Military Science courses at Westpoint and my Uncle works in the State Department, so I am sure I can recall a few facts about WWII.

Wow Sin! The fact that you know of Rokkesovsky (no idea how to spell it in latin alphabet) shows me you are not basing you facts off of movies. My main purpose was to blow the steryotype that we use human waves as our main tactic. I will make a new thread as this is getting off topic. I also have another thing to dish up for you. Eventhough it is true that we sent many men to the front. Not all of our men were soldiers. Many were factory workers and had to maintain war production. Hitler used Jews and Gypsies as labour and sent the arrians to war. The Germans started to se women when the situation became desprate. When we invaded Manchuria, that Soviet Army was well disciplined and well  supplied. Also I agknowledge that the US and British bombing raids on factories helped alot, however I think Russia could have taken Germany with out US and British troop commitments. We were already ravaging Poland. 1944 was known as the "Year of Victories" At that time there was little stoping the Russian for our logistics were A+ (thanks to American Jeeps) and the Russian Army was starting to become more mechanized and didnt rely souly on railroad transportation for long distance travel.
