Where is the knowledge we lost with information?

« on: August 22, 2002, 04:20:06 am »

I just saw a preview thing for the new OS Jaguar and I was wondering if it was a serious update from the previous version because im buying a mac and I want to know if it dosen't come with this if I should buy it. All that I heard was that it was better for communication, better spam filtering for email, and more windows compatible there was even talk of Word for mac. So does it have a lot of stuff on the update or is it not worth buying?

I've had a chance to use it for a while and I think it's worth the educational upgrade price ($79 US). There is no feature in particular worth this price but the system overall is much more responsive and robust. The networking in particular is much faster in 10.2. There are also a number of graphical features (automatically rotating desktop pictures, opacity in the terminal, etc.) that just make using OSX more enjoyable.

So I would say Yes, it's worth the upgrade, but try to get it though educational pricing or with the rebate from Amazon.com (if it's still available).

Just a related note about the rotating desktop pictures...is there a way to on the Screensaver get it to randomize the order it shows the pictures in rather than in alphabetical?

I saw Jaguar demo'd at mwny. 1 word. SHERLOCK. I know it's hard to believe, but sherlock is fucking amazing in Jaguar. It eliminates half of the internet's need!!! You can buy movie tickets from Sherlock now! Get maps and directions, find resturaunts, and a helluvalot more. It was truly unbelievable.
