Why don't you make like a tree...and get the fuck

« on: June 28, 2002, 03:37:24 pm »

I'm having trouble running this game.  I downloaded it from Carracho.  It installed fine and everything...but now when I try to run the game, it tells me that the path to SWGB contains a backslash, slash, or period.  I've checked the obvious files...and everything looks fine.  I guess I'm missing something...can someone help me out a bit?

ps - I know I'm not the smartest when it comes to computers...sorry.  lol.  But I'd appreciate it if someone could find my problem.

Is it a shareware game?

Because if it's a full version software and has been put up online for people to download (pirate) - it's unauthorized.  It is likely to contain errors and bugs.

Buy the game and you should have no trouble.

If it's shareware or freeware though, I don't know what's wrong.

I really don't see why, unless whoever uploaded it didn't get it completely there, it wouldn't work...

Damnit jeb, you and your good servers.  Pirates are too fucking greedy nowadays restricting access to their goods.  Bastards of hotline and Carracho hear me roar.

Lol Bondo - I know what you mean.  I ran my hotline server for about a month.  It was great - I was getting about 30 users at a time - guest access was always on, and everyone was happy.  People even waited in queues for hours.  But no one was uploading.  It got to be such a pain, because when I had the server open, my internet was slow as molasses.  If people had been sending me files it would have been worth it - but they weren't.

I finally figured out that over half my users were bots using Pitbull that couldn't have uploaded if they wanted to.  Kinda defeats the purpose don't you think?

So I don't run my server much anymore - I want to give away free content, but only if people are going to share some of theirs with me.

And I've found most of the people running exclusive servers are pretty easy to persuade.  There are many assholes out there, but the rest of them will let you download forever just for uploading them one good DivX movie, for example.  And that's what hotline should be all about.

Besides...half of the warez stuff sucks.  It just feels wrong getting software like that - unless its ridiculously overpriced...but nevertheless...

Before you rush to character judgement, I'm primarily a music and movies person.  That's what hotline should be for.

Well, I'm talking about servers that have every game known to man, thus limiting the ability for anyone to have something to upload.  So basically, you can't download without uploading, and you can't upload because they have everything.  (That and you can't download the disc image program you need to get a file ready to upload Wink.

Yeah I know what you mean.  Those servers suck, and they are the reason people have made bots and Pitbull which now make ALL servers suck.  Oh well.

But you can make a disc image with a lot of things....

toast, apple disc copy, shrinkwrap

they are all downloadable, one is freeware, the other shareware, and the other, errrm... Wink

And I've found Stuffit Expander (the latest version) will open almost any disc image, even if its one that disc copy can't verify.

Three little letters for you.... KDX.

It's where most of the good guys have gone.  No bots at all (and a developer/publiser that is dedicated to keeping it that way).

You guys obviously have never stoped by my server... me and my "the world is shareware, as long as you really pay the fees" vision.  I don't mind downloading a game to try it out for a week or so before paying for it (no matter what the publisher, shareware or COTS).  Same with any other software.  I just think it's important to make sure and pay for what you use (especially all you dicks that never pay and then bitch that nothing good comes out for the Mac... idiots).  That wasn't directed at anyone inparticular... but there are plenty of them out there.

There are lots of KDX servers out there that remember how it's supposed to be done Wink

See, what gets me is that many games don't have demos anymore.  How should I know if a game is worth playing if I can't try it before hand in any part.  Therefore I seek to dl it and play it some.  If I like it I'll still buy it, just like R6, RS, RtoCW, and MoH.

I'm too lazy to just do a search on Google -

What's the KDX homepage?  I'll give it a look...

And what is your server address Grifter?
